As Lucic goes, so go the Bruins

See title. That's something a coworker told me the other day. Nobody besides Bitz managed to get their ***** in gear until Lucic turns up the intensity in the third.

Lucic gets it. I still don't see him being much more productive than 20 goals a year but he brings game-changing intensity. The guy can set the tone for the entire team...after he scores, Axe lays out Walker, Ward flattens Jokinen, Stuart throws a couple of big shots, and they pressed hard for the game-winner.

This isn't exactly breaking news here, but it's really shocking in retrospect. Some of the Bruins were playing well, some weren't, but they were all largely ineffective until Lucic gives the whole team a kick in the pants.

Lucic had a good game, if the Bruins went how Lucic went they'd have won last night.

Lucic is a major factor, but it's wrong to assume he can do it all. We need more Lucics.

My point is that the kid breathes life into the team...they're flat unless he takes them all on his back and does that one thing that changes the game. He plays well but that momentum change doesn't happen until he does something GREAT. And you're right...he can't do it all. That worries me, because it looks like he needs to for the team to come through in the clutch.

Lucic was the best player during the PO. The guy is a beast and a pure playoff player, showing up when it really matters.
He will be a star and a 30 goal scorer very very soon.

Scouts really need to toss out all the height and weight criteria and focus on a players heart and determination. The playoffs prove that.

I think you might be on to something there. I don't understand why GM's and scouts don't get that.

Oh I know, and I agree.

Now we need another big game presence.

Lucic is an embodiment of everything a Boston Bruins hockey player should be, especially his heart and his will.

He had an excellent playoffs this year. Did everything that was asked of him and more, especially against Montreal and in the last three games against Carolina.

Looch stepped up last night. It's just a shame that many of his fellow teammates couldn't.

This is true, but it's tough to gauge. See Thornton, Joe.

Lucic has all four criteria you listed there, which is why he's the ultimate Bruin to me.

Sometimes 20 goal guys are worth so much more than their 20 goals and 30 whatever assists.

O'Reilly had some very good years but overall he averaged about 20 goals a year, but he was much more valuable than some other guys who scored their 20.
