Global Canadian Hockey League

Just wondering if anyone else heard about this league starting up for the 2009-10 season.

Here is a link to their site:

Jeez what can ya say....Lottery shootout...good one. No home arena's made me laugh to. And expand into the States, something about National Teams, and will become the place to play outside the NHL....

this league never will get off the ground. not one arena deal done yet. no news from them in months. the concept is completely flawed, but hey crazier things have been tried.

Yep I don't know why your laughing, it doesn't look like a joke to them! lol

It seems every new hockey season there's at least one new minor league that wants to be better than the NHL after a season or two. There's so many problems with their plans but I'll highlight a few:
They don't have home arenas because they want teams to be the provinces' teams and not just cities', a team will float around to different cities in the home province (later state after US expansion). It's a nice idea on paper but if you look at states or regions with only one NHL team, CBJ, STL, MTL, NSH, VAN etc... Those team have state-wide fanbases and essentially become the state's team too. There's lots of issues without having a distinct home city or arena, The largest problem is that it will be hard for the teams to get regular customers/season ticket holders!
