There's no way the Isles get that kind of a package for the 1st. Sorry.
Sure they would. For the right to pick John Tavares? 2 High draft picks and a 2nd rounder isn't exactly a king's ransom. JM Liles is a very good offensive d-man and a perfect fit for Dallas who is built to win now.

The top-3 for the draft are hardly set in stone at this point. Now it might just be idle speculation, but enough uncertainty has surrounding who is going where in the top-3 to make teams less likely to unload a ton of assets just to move up or down a spot or two.
As for the trade itself, the Isles are getting a top-10 pick and a high second rounder to move down two spots. That's outrageous considering the fact that Tavares isn't regarded as one of those generational talents that would necessitate such a return.
Liles is coming off a down year which showed that he's not capable of being a #1 defenseman on a nightly basis. He just signed a long-term deal as well. With all the concerns for long-term contracts, I'm not even sure the Avs could get a 2nd round pick for him at this point. They certainly couldn't get a top-10 pick for him; not in this draft--not in any draft.
So in summation, the Isles take this and walk away smiling, but it's all for naught because Dallas and Colorado wouldn't be on board.

Ok. Because YOU said so. Thank you for your insight Hockey Guru
I think you're missing the point. Avalanche fans would clearly do it. Dallas fans wouldn't touch this. JM Liles is probably not even worth the 30th pick, let alone the 8th.
Clearly that's not the case. Some may--depending on your opinion of Hedman or Tavares, but most would not.
Considering the fact that Colorado is in full bore rebuild mode, if in whatever fantasy world they get that much for Liles in return, then they'd be much better off having two top-10 picks and the high second rounder.

Exactly...
Teams know Colorado is in rebuild mode. There is no way teams are going to help them achieve that without getting overpayment in return.
