exactly, this is the kind of thing that makes a star player a very good player. Makes a very good player an OK player, etc

who knows if Jiggy's heart and mind are fully recovered next year, especially if he is traded. Huge risk for the new team. If Jiggy isn't absolutley a beast, than his 6 mill cap hit is a killer.

The reality is that almost no other GM would touch him right now. He has a NTC clause so he isn't going anywhere. The best possible situation for him is in Anaheim and that is where he will be.

Oilers say no thx. Not spending that much on a goalie.

This might sound like lunacy, but Wiz was probably the 2nd best defenseman for the Ducks in their playoff run.

One fanbase says overpaid, the other, underpaid.

As a fan of neither team I think it looks pretty close to fair to me.

And Getzlaf> Rory Fitzpatrick > Penner

There is no possible way Wis is better, or has more value than Tom Gilbert.

This is a textbook example of a HF Boards trade proposal discussion.

Some Ducks fans who don't know much about Gilbert vs some Oilers fans who have no clue about Wizniewski. Perfect.

However, I feel I would have to decline the proposal. Oilers fans are obviously and rightfully high on Gilbert's impressive 45 points from the blue line. But so are Ducks fans about Wisniewski's physical play. He's been a tremendous fit next to Scott Niedermayer, and should he return, Wisniewski will be a #1-pairing defender on the Ducks come October. He's also not exactly a scrum offensively: last year he came within 7 pts of Gilbert's production while still being the better defensive defenseman. This year, he's missed half a season after his knee injury, but especially since joining the Ducks he's been on a pace that would see him come close to Gilbert's numbers (for those who love numbers more than anything - which seems to be most).
In addition to that, the physical presence Wiz is is what the Ducks need more at this point. He is up for a raise this summer, but I'm pretty certain he'll not get $4 mio, so keeping him over Gilbert also saves some well needed cap space.

Just like Anaheim traded Andy MacDonald for Doug Weight, signed Bertuzzi for over 4 million, etc. Let's not pretend that the Oilers are alone in making bad moves.

I'd pass. There has to be better possibilities in net than Giguere.

Ok from our POV, Wiz is definitely NOT a throw in

I see this trade as essentially Nilsson and a some cap space for Gigeure.

I would do it if it were O'Sullivan instead of Gilbert.

huh? I know he had a bad season, but better possiblities... like who... Luongo?

Having said that, there is 0 chance giguere goes to Edmonton because of his family's need to be by certain medical centers.

And ducks fans are very high Wizniewski. He is very physical and is a great skater/passes and seems to have a decent shot. He plays with a lot of heart.

It would have to a foolish trade for me to consider moving him.

What? If he was a great skater he'd be an excellent dman instead of just good. Once he gets moving he's allright but man does it take long for him to get moving.

The Oilers aren't going to be doing anything over the next couple of seasons that would require a 6 million dollar goalie.

I'd much rather either go for somebody younger and less expensive, or just resign Rolo for one more year while we try and find a longer term answer.

Third, behind Pronger and Niedermayer. He was awesome in the SJ series, and was good before his injury against Detroit.

In the first round Nieds was better, but was gawd awful in the 2nd round IMO other than when he was paired with Pronger. It's an argument whether or not Wiz was our 2nd best dman though, I thought he was solid throughout and had some bad luck towards the end of the red wings series.

I wasn't too impressed with Pronger during the playoffs. I had Nieds first, Wiz second, and Pronger 3rd.

The Wiz is going to be a big part of Anaheim's future, Any team who wants him would have to overpay to get him.
