All Purpose Movie/TV Thread

Being a lazy college student that only works seven months of the year I get to watch a lot of movies. Please indulge this bored soul in some movie discussion.

Top 5 Movies (this is current, I respect the fact that everyone's list is constantly changing):
1. Being John Malkovich
2. Punch-Drunk Love
3. Clerks
4. The Big Lebowski
5. White Men Can't Jump

Top 5 Actors:
1. Sam Rockwell
2. Phillip Seymour Hoffman
3. Brad Pitt
4. Bill Murray
5. Edward Norton

HM: Jack Black (this guys is ******* hilarious, screw all the haters. every scene he does in saving silverman is priceless)

Woody Harrelson has done a lot of movies I love.

Also, I want to throw some love out for John Cusack. He does some crappy movies but he can be magnificent in the right role.

Hard to keep Kevin Spacey off the list as well

As for current movie discussion...

Angels and Demons was basically a grown up version of National Treasure/Journey to the Center of the Earth.... Pretty laughable.

Star Trek didn't do much for me, but I'm not a fan of the super hero movies generally

Oh and Marley & Me had me crying my ******* eyes out

You do know that there is at least 1 movie thread in the entertainment section.

Nope, I'm a n00b. Plus, I generally like conversing with Flyers fans only on here.

Film student. Massive snob. Slightly unorthodox taste. Here's some basic food groups:

1. The Night of the Hunter (Suspense)
2. The Conversation (Crime, Mystery)
3. The Great Dictator (Comedy, War)
4. Jeremiah Johnson (Adventure, Western, 70s weirdness)
5. Metropolis (Futurism, Sci-Fi)

(I omitted a pre-50s mob flick and a Kubrick. But, it's almost 8am and I haven't slept yet. I don't want any internal, list-making deliberation right now. 2001/FMJ/Clockwork or The Public Enemy could've been on there.)

1. Robert Mitchum
2. Irene Dunne
3. Charlie Chaplin
4. James Cagney
5. Cute chicks: Audrey Hepburn, Merle Oberon, Lillian Gish

I love you, Oyster... but, that's bordering on FOUR 90s cult flicks.

This is what I get for hanging out with nothing but guys who are borderline obsessive with everything Arnold, Stallone, Bruce Willis, and Jason Statham, and also anything sports related:

1. Rocky IV (Of course the entire series, but this one is my favorite)
2. Miracle
3. Live Free or Die Hard (Refer to Rocky explanation)
4. The Life Aquatic
5. Donnie Darko

There's a million movies that can battle it out on my list for the last 2 spots, but for now that's what popped in my head so don't hold me to that.

1. Sylvester Stallone.......... (Kambo's Rambo love coming out)
2. Jack Nicholson
3. Bruce Willis (LULZ)
4. Edward Norton
5. Carey Grant (My Hitchcock class got me to fall in love with him)

Top Five Movies?

idk, I do have some favorites, but nothing groundbreaking. Most people will look at this list and laugh/scoff. Whatever.

Boondock Saints
The Godfather
The Amatuers
Goodfellas
The Departed
Pulp Fiction

Man I gotta rent The Big Lebowski. I never finished it!

Jack Black is funny sometimes, others you KNOW he is trying to hard.

I went into Live Free or Die Hard with very low expectations, but that movie was just frickin awesome both from the badass standpoint and the unintentional comedy standpoint.

That villain was possibly one of the worst I've ever seen, but that just made it funny and I always enjoy Bruce Willis cavorting around killing people. The stuff with the fighter jet was just icing on the cake.

Favorite movies:

- Godfather 1 and 2 (I actually prefer 2)
- The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (all credit to MSE there)
- The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (beautifully done)
- La Haine
- Point Break (how can you hate this movie?)
- Shawshank Redemption
- The Truman Show

Bunch of other stuff. I love movies.

EDIT: I forgot to mention Caddyshack and Spinal Tap, two of my all-time favorite comedies.

It's too hard for me to narrow it down to five so I'm throwing a few more out there.

Chinatown
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
Empire Strikes Back (and the other two originals)
Rear Window
Shawshank Redemption
Paths of Glory
Usual Suspects
The Natural
LA Confidential

Big Lebowski should also be in there, along with Rope.

I just recently got Netflix so this thread should be pretty helpful in finding movies to get.

Lately I've been trying to get through all of Herzog's films. Watched The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser last. I've been checking out some Alexandro Jodoworsky stuff too... Holy Mountain and El Topo.

My top 5 as of now:

1. Blow
2. Fear and Loathing
3. Buffalo '66
4. The Big Lebowski
5. Mallrats

This will probably change very quickly after I catch up on some movies.

How could I forget Steve Buscemi? He's great in everything and is killed in almost every movie (even the Sopranos) that he is in.
