Only in Toronto among Sundin Loyalists, would it be considered punishment and poor player treatment of their hero by MLSE, by wanting to trade him to a Cup contender and allow him a chance to win the Cup.
Certainly that act has to be classified as cruel and unusual punishment, for a player of Sundin's status and contribution in the past.
Sundin really stuck it to them, and showed them who was boss. I guess he didn't want his long summers interrupted by pesky NHL playoff games, that he had become so accustomed to by captaining the Leafs to three consecutive non playoff years. So he took an extra long vacation, and joined his new favourite team Vancouver on his terms. Thank goodness Sundin had a NTC and was able to block that trade to a contender.
