Offer Sheets?

Just wondering which teams might be susceptable to an offersheet on an RFA due to either a) the salary cap or b) the teams budget.

To start:
-would Buffalo match a $2.5M offer sheet to Stafford?
-would Detroit match a $2.5M offer sheet on Hudler?
-would LA match a $3.9M offer sheet on Johnson?
-would WAS match a $1.3M offer sheet on Fehr?
-would WAS match a $1.3M offer sheet on Morrisonn?

This.

Lombardi would take your picks with a smile on his face, but all of those others would get matched.

Gotta Match Them All

For Johnson, it depends which team gives the offer sheet.

Say it's the Red Wings or Pens ... those picks probably won't be very high and probably won't lead to a player of Johnson's calibre.

I'd just reluctantly match, then maybe trade Johnson in the future and get something better than those relatively low picks.

If it's a team that might have difficulty making the playoffs, like the Leafs or Thrashers, then for sure take you the picks.

I think the problem Samuelsson. They can't keep both Hudler and Samuelsson IMO so it all depends on which one they think more highly of. If they resign Samy and then get a 2.5 for Hudler they might just take that pick and cap space and be fine. But then again I really have no idea since they seem to like keeping every single player on the team for 10 years.

The hawks might struggle to match if someone gave Bolland 2.6 or Versteeg 3.9. Compensations would be a 2nd rounder or a 1st + 3rd respectively.

No on Fehr. Probably yes on Morrisonn, only because it's $700k less than he made this year (thus making it an unrealistic salary offer). But, if it were $2m for Morrisonn, probably not.

So if the Sens offered Versteeg 3.9 then you don't think Hawks management would be able to accept that deal for Versteeg? (Of course Versteeg would have to accept the offer from Ottawa so I am in no way saying it's going to happen it is just a hypothetical situation)
