This sucks. The NHL loses one of the best stickhandlers in the world but Caps get cap space so its not so bad.

so he had another yr left on his deal?

Fedorov gone too eh. Well that means Nylander stays as they now have cap space and no one will take that deal anyways

Kozlov said last week he would take a paycut to stay with the Caps.

Please stay in Dallas, Zubov!

This exodus is most unsettling for those with Russian UFA's, I would imagine.

Well, good Russian UFA's, I suppose.

Hmm, the wrong centers are leaving for KHL it seems. I'm sure Caps fans would prefer Nylander to go instead!

Zubov may come over to Russia as all the power teams are interested in him. the ? is whether he still thinks he can play in the NHL and subject his body to the pounding or finish his career in Russia for comparable money and may be reserve a spot on the Olympics team in Vancouver.

Not a big loss for the league, or the Caps. Too bad that he never became better, than he was. Guy had all the tools, but was lazy.

I don't think he was lazy at all, he played with some of the best players in the game in Bure and Ovy and instead of using his cannon of a shot, he'd always look for the pass since he was good with that as well. He'd drive me crazy when he was a Panther, but I wish him the best.

Goes to show how much you can trust what Kozlov says.
He is such a talented player but he never had true NHL hunger.

was going to post this same thing.

i remember hearing so much about him.He was always "1 year away from stardom." But he didn't seem to have the dedication to take to the next step.

Both Kozlov and Fedorov are UFAs. Not sure why some others are talking about this move like it created cap space. All it does is solidify the fact that neither player will be back. Of course, neither player was likely to be brought back even if they had stayed in the NHL. Fedorov maybe, if he took a 50% paycut down to $2m. But that wasn't likely.

When's the last time he suited up for Russia?

I remember he had a boycott going on in recent tourneys, not sure if that's still intact.

Guy has sizes, skill and smarts (Ovy said, that Kozlov is one of the smartest players with whom he have played). Kozlov had all the components, but still he was a 2nd line player at best. I assume that he just wasn't ready to play all 82 games at full power. Maybe I'm wrong, but I always had this feeling about Kozlov.

Maybe the fact that he was slow as **** and when stickhandling, he'd do too many moves, lose the puck and be too God damn slow to go get it back.

I wanted him in Montréal a while ago because he is a big body, but rarely uses it physically.

I think Kozzie gets an undeserved bad rep on here. He never seemed lazy in his stay in Washington. Used his body well along the boards, and was great at maintaining puck possession. I think he could play on a scoring line on any team in the league and be successful. He's just one of those types of players that is, and always will be in a supporting role. Solid player, great person.

Good luck Kozzie, I was glad to watch you in DC.
