Plekanec is a two way centerman with a high of 68 points. How does that only benefit Montreal?

Ask yourself why would Columbus want to trade away their second best goal scorer? When you bring in a guy that scores 26 goals in his first year with the team you don't turn around and move him in the offseason.

BTW, Plekanec's 69 point season was the same year that Umberger torched the Habs in the playoffs scoring 10 goals in 17 games. I think you underestimate the value he brings to Columbus. Not to mention he's a former Ohio State Buckeye which means he's already a hero to most of the city. RJ is here to stay—sorry dude.

Umberger isn't what the habs need.

Habs need to make Plekanec part of a package to try and land that number 1 center they haven't had in forever!

Pointless trade for either team. I could see the Habs interested in Umberger, but it wouldn't be for Plekanec, because they would basically be making a lateral move. The Habs would be interested in a guy like Umberger to improve their overall depth down the middle if guys like Lang and Koivu don't return. Trading a center for him doesn't really accomplish anything. It would simply be shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic. I could see Pleks being part of a deal to make a substantial upgrade, but not at more or less a lateral move.

Plekanec would be a small piece of that package to land a #1 centre.
