I definitely would consider that one. Clarkson is the perfect type of player for what Burke is going for: a tough-as-nails power forward who's capable of 15-20 goals per year. If it was bumped up to a 2nd, I'd say definitely.

Change the 2nd to a 3rd and it's more likely. We're likely gonna be a bad team again next year so there's no reason to move it for a lesser pick.

I think i read NJ is short at center. Thats something the Leafs have. Maybe this would be better for both teams.

I like the trade... it's just hard to judge the "prospect". Are we talking Cormier, Halischuk, Tenenby, Bergfors,....?

I really like the looks of Matt Corrente... would NJ do the deal with him in the "prospect" position?

I would. I like Corrente, but the Devils need a PMD and Kaberle fits the bill.

I agree with you on the fact that it would have to be one of their top prospects. We are taking salary back, and that is what makes the prospect a good one. Because stajan can get a 2nd this year imo, and kaberle can get a 1st, 2nd and midprospect next year, so by sending salary this way, i think the propect would have to be a good one.

I think I actually like this one more than the OP's proposal.

Something tells me a Lou and Burke trade would either be very epic, very very very minor, or the world would implode right afterwards. Forgive me if I've forgotten one/some from the past.

Haha. That trade went down the toilet when you mentioned Tedenby. You have more luck getting Cormier than our TOP PROSPECT.

Personally, I think they're valued close to equally. They both had great playoff performances.

Not a chance. Tedenby's skill is vastly superior to Cormier's, and Tedenby's speed and scoring touch makes him an outstanding prospect. We're talking about a potential top line scorer in him.

Cormier is more of a physical, two way player...suited for third line role.

Cormier also plays in a league among equals, with guys at the same age as him. Tedenby plays in a competitive, professional league where young guys like him don't get that much icetime. That Tedenby played at such a high level in the playoffs speaks volumes about his game and about his potential.

Well, in that case, how would you feel about substituting in either Eckford or Palmieri instead of Tedenby?

I would have no problem substituting Palmieri for him. Eckford is still an unknown, but he's a puck moving d-man that we should try to hold on to. But trading him in exchange for Kaberle? I'd have no problem with that either.

I'd still stick with Corrente over those two... maybe Palmieri, but I just like Corrente's style of game.

After having read the comments in this thread, I thought I'd give this proposal thing a whirl. So, to both Devils and Leafs fans, how do you feel about the following:

To NJD:
D Tomas Kaberle
RW Matt Frattin OR C Chad Rau

To TML:
NJD 1st '09
NJD 2nd '09
D Tyler Eckford OR RW Nick Palmieri
RW Dainius Zubrus

Thoughts? If it's lop-sided in either direction, please make a suggestion on how to make it fair.

EDIT: I've added in player positions for more clarity as to what each side would be getting and have added in the option of Chad Rau on the Leaf side of the ledger.

Are you on crack? Kaberle for a first and second and a great prospect? Im a leafs fan and I would be happy with just the first and a worse prospect

If you're referring to my proposal then perhaps you mis-read it. Please try re-reading it if this is the case.

In any event, you should have quoted the post to which you decided to respond, thus preventing any assumptions from being made.
