I can see him holding out for more... any a desperate team making him such an offer.
Seabrook makes 3.5 million and you could argue he had a better year (statistically).
Im not a Hawks fan, but don't tell me Barker had a better year than Seabrook. I know you said statistically, but when handing out contracts you don't just look at the statistics. Seabrook is miles ahead of Barker in his own end.
I really don't see him making over $2 million per season.
Then i think you highly under-rate the teams desperate for decent D men. Although, he is not Seabrook/Keith level, i think he will make at the very least 2.5 mill and more like 3 or over. But if Chicago does want to keep him, he will have to sign with them in the 2 to 2.5 million range, unless Campbell is moved.
I can see Chicago matching anything under 3, but over that, they would let him go i think.

I agree with you completely. I expect some d-starved team to make a ridiculous offer for him, like 4/20m and the Hawks could let him go.
No way Barker does not get an offer sheet. I would think he would get multiple offers anywhere from 3yr/9mil to 3/4yr/12mil would be my guess. teams are starved for D like him. I would think the Hawks match if they can work the cap.
Obviously they try to lock him up at a dicount now. I would be shocked if he makes less than 3mil/yr either way. If the Hawks can get him for 2-2.5 they should be thrilled. (won't happen)
A 3mil per offer sheet compensates with a 1 and a 3. A proven 23yo 20min/g 40p dman (who still has potential to improve) many GM's will feel is worth a 1 and a 3. IMHO
Man Chicago got screwed over when Washington won the lottery. Could've had Malkin. Instead they got Cam-frickin'-Barker. Meh, I guess everything balanced out when they moved up 4 spots to nab Kane.
Hes going to get the same contract Grebeshkov, Edler, Erhoff, Vlasic blah blah blah get...
3.1-3.25 Million on a 3-4 year contract.
Personally I dislike his game, I think he's slow, and too much of a risk in his own end, and as the game ebbs and flows, I think people will (or already have) realize that 1 dimensional puck movers don't a defensemen make.
Personally I already see the value of the shut-down physical Defensemen sky rocketing, then again, I live in Edmonton.

I agree. You figure if you are picking in the 1st round, Barker is less risk than any 18 year old being picked. So in reality, a team is giving up a 3rd rounder for him.
The problem with these offer sheets is GM's signing guys who couldn't possibly live up to the salary they are being offered. I think Barker can live up to 3 million dollars a year. I saw him play a few times this year and have come away very impressed with his offensive game.

I think the concerns about his defensive game are blown out of proportion. The difference between Phaneuf and Barker is athleticism and speed.
I don't see us going more than 3 million on him. The potential is there, but we aren't going to shell out more than three in our current cap situation. Compensation wise, does a 1st and a 3rd sound right?
Barker is going to cost you 4+ million because teams can do a RFA offer and get him for a 1st, 2nd or 3rd. This seems pretty reasonable for a 3rd overall pick to me.
