6th Annual HFBoards Coyotes Prospect of the Year

Michael Stone played on one of the best defense corps in the WHL this season for the Calgary Hitmen. Stone finished second in points for defenseman on the team with 19 goals and 42 assists. A physical presence on the ice, Stone uses his big frame to make an impact. Although the Hitmen lost to Colin Long's Rockets in the WHL final, those who saw the last game will remember his huge open ice hit on Mikael Backlund. In the annual Best of the East poll, Stone finished third as the "Best Offensive Defenceman" and second for "Hardest Shot."

Colin Long had a great season, but came up short in the Memorial Cup final against Windsor. Long was captain of the Kelowna Rockets this season, who won the WHL Championship. Long had 91 points during the season after putting up 100 last year.

Maxim Goncharov upped his stock greatly with his performance at the World Junior Championships, leading all blueliners with five goals. Goncharov, a fifth round pick in the 2007 draft, was not only a force on the point for the Russians but also a physical intimidator. Described by some hockey media as being close to NHL ready, Maxim was one of the best defenseman in the tournament. He played the season for CSKA in the KHL putting up good numbers for a young blueliner.

We have not had a run away winner like this since Keith Yandle. Let's hope the hype is real.
