From that point on we agree on just about everything, I think 5mil per year for DK might be a little high, I could see both him and Phil at 4mil per year.

But the Seidenberg addition would be huge for the Bruins, I've been on that bandwagon myself. I think your lines are very well balanced and I like your defence pairs very much. I know he's no star but I'd definatly keep Hnidy over Montador, I think Shane has proved he's valuable to us.

So I think outside of a little disagreement off the top our ideal Bruins team is pretty much a mirror image.

edit: Knew I forgot someone, I'd love to keep Aaron Ward, I just love the way the guy plays he's a warrior.

And if Axelsson will come back I take him over Yelle but from what I've been hearing he's likely going to Frolunda.

I would keep Montador, Hnidy looked bAd in the PO.

I'd rather the Bruins keep Kessel, but if the offer is high enough, you might see him gone, or he could just be traded, but hopefully he stays.

I'd love Ward to stay but in my eyes the defense corps without him look better with him, because someone like Siedenberg or Hunwick will be bumped out, and Ward gets paid too much to be a 7th Dman IMO.

Kessel at 5 years for 4 mil per.
Resign Hunwick at 1.25mil for 3 years
Sign Dennis Siedenberg for 2 years at 2mil per.
Let Montador, Axe walk.
Resign Hnidy for 1 year at 800k
Resign Yelle for 1 year at 600k.
Trade both Ference and Ward for a picks.
Call up Rask and you get a lineup like this:

Wheeler-Savard-Kessel
Lucic-Krejci-Ryder
Sturm-Bergeron-Kobasew
Bitz-Yelle-Thornton

Chara-Hunwick
Wideman-Hnidy
Siedenberg-Stuart

Thomas
Rask

That would be a cap hit of around 54,264,167. I may be a little off but that sounds pretty swell to me, and that's quite a solid team. This is without taking in to account possible bonuses though.

Despite all the negative talk about Aaron Ward-i dont think he is going anywhere-Ward plays a shutdown role with Chara and displays great leadership in the dressing room- IMO if the Bruins cant upgrade their D in the offseason they should wait for next year when Ference and wards contracts are up and they have some money to go after a top 4 d-man!!!

So if the Bruins decide to trade Kessel (or other players for cap room)...How much will Saku Koivu play for?

Koivu was Julien's captain before

I'm guessing it would take $3.5 million a year.

Savard
Krejci
Bergeron
Koivu

Who moves to wing? We can't afford to pay $3.5 million for a 4th line center.

Yea it's mostly idle supposition on my part.

But I know Ryder said that he enjoyed playing on the same line as Koivu.

So I guess the Bruins could put Koivu on Krejci's LW and Ryder on the right.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see Koivu here, and he'd be a great addition to a team looking for a missing piece for a Cup run. Hell, let's get the rights to Chris Higgins, too. Higgins-Koivu-Ryder used to be Montreal's top line.

We've stumbled upon Chia's secret plan to get Ryder 40 goals

So...Kessel is traded for a defenseman. Kobasew + Ference are once again traded together.

Lucic -- Savard -- Wheeler

Koivu -- Krejci -- Ryder

Sturm -- Bergeron --Recchi

Axelsson --Sobotka --Bitz/Thornton

Looks like Chris Neil won't be back in Ottawa. I think Brickley is in the Chris Neil fanclub.

There are certain players that he likes.

Kaberle
Neil
Parise

Koivu hasn't played on the wing in pretty much his whole career.

It actually wouldn't surprise me if Koivu would want to come to Boston. He really wants to win the Stanley Cup and will probably ask for less money from a good team. And he would very likely be ready to be the #3 centre of some contender. If Koivu is truly leaving from Montreal, I would put my money on Anaheim. Koivu and Selänne are great friends and have always loved playing with each other in the Finnish national team. And they've always done it with great success. And Anaheim doesn't really have a 2nd line centre.

Wouldn't mind getting Mike Knuble back if he doesn't sign in Philly.

Probably cost like $3.25 million AAV.

Marty Reasoner resigned in Atlanta for 2 years (1.10 + 1.20). I had him pegged at 1.5 + after having a great year.

Maybe a sign that low level + mid level guys can't expect to get paid like the UFA's of a year or two ago?

Paying Knuble 3.25m a year at this point when we are debating trading Kessel is about as an absurd of an idea I have seen in a while.

The point is that IF the Bruins decide to make some moves to free up space they might have an opening at the RW position. It could be that they trade Kessel or Kobasew but they also have to decide on Recchi who I wouldn’t hesitate to resign. They could slide Wheeler over to RW but they also might go for a UFA guy. If Chiarelli feels that Knuble is a good candidate to add size up front maybe he's a guy that the Bruins try to sign.

He's coming off a $2.8 cap number so maybe more realistic is $3.0 a year but Knuble at $3.25 is a better value than Ryder at 4.

Philadelphia had guys like Carter, Richards, Gagne, and Hartnell yet still Knuble got 18 + minutes of ice time a game and Knuble has played in all 82 games in 4 of the last 5 years. Go ahead and make a John Stevens joke but I think Knuble still has a couple more good years in him.

Ray Emery is back in the NHL

http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/phi090608.html

Quote:
According to the Philadelphia Daily News, the Flyers and unrestricted free agent goalie Ray Emery have agreed to a one-year contract.
The contract cannot be signed until July 1, once the free agent market opens, but the paper claims the team will announce later this week that current No.1 goalie Martin Biron has been replaced.

Emery's new deal will reportedly pay him $1.5 million.

Never give up type of guy. I would walk down a dark alley any night with him. Strength in numbers I guess.

Kwiet has been signed to a minor league contract. Do you know if he will be invited to the B's prospect camp?

Does anybody happen to know if there's a text plan in the USA for free agent signings? I'm not going to be home today and would like to know the signings as they happen.

Kwiet is a 6'4"/ 218 pound defenseman who played with B's draft pick Lane McDermid at Windsor.

Two big boys who could play for Providence this year.

Apparently the Oilers and Roloson couldn't agree on a deal and he will be testing the market. I had heard that apparently Roloson wanted a two-year deal whereas the Oilers only wanted to commit for one more.

Here's the link from Dreger's tweet: http://twitter.com/DarrenDreger
