Fantastic deal for Boston. Great value in terms of money and terms; I am extremely surprised Krejci didn't test the offer sheet market, as he almost certainly would have gotten a comparable or better offer there.

Some people aren't all about money you know? We all know you really wanted him but it will be okay.

chia was the contract guy, plain and simple. That was his job in Ottawa and should continue to be his strength as a GM. It's also easy to forget ottawa wasnt exactly financially stable at the time, so he wasnt given much money to work with.

I think the idea is that Chiarelli was seen as an 'old' guy to Melnyk, who wanted to bring in his own staff. Chia left primarily because Melnyk would not guarantee him the GM job after the inevetible retirement of Muckler (he was/is damn old). I still dont agree with the choice (just like i dont agree with every choice the sens have made regarding the GM position as there has almost allways been a better candidate inside the organization), but when Melnyk had just paid that much money for a new toy, it was his decision to make.

Great deal for Boston.
Good for them. Maybe the reasonable 2nd contract is back.

One could only hope... This entry-level contract to superstar $5 million+ contract is getting old fast...

Good deal for the Bruins, good for them. Couldn't have done a better job with this contract.

Man...are Buffalo fans still bitter over the Vanek contract? It's somewhat conceivable that he might actually have an interest in winning. Just a thought.

Sets a pretty interesting precedent for the situation in Los Angeles, eh?

Also, every Daydream Believer that thought their GM would fleece bos in the ultimate off-season shrewd move just collapsed in a heap over their tear-filled Cheerios bowl.

From my understanding, Buffalo management was playing hard ball with Vanek's agent, and completely low balling him. Buffalo management thought Vanek had zero leverage. IMO, if Buffalo offered him 3 years for $4.0ish million a year, he would of signed it.

That's an incredible deal for Boston. I expect him to be one of the best production/cap hit players by the end of that contract.

Yes, and reasonable for our high profile RFA is a lot less since he hasn't produced much yet.

From your understanding, well, is wrong.

Vanek's agent wouldn't even talk to the team because he knew he would get offer sheets. They tried to get something done in season, Vanek's agent refused. To be frank, thats what agents do, maximize the profit for their client. I can't help but think the fact that Krejci is going to miss a good chunk of next season and the uncertainty of the market cost him quite a bit in value.

Also, for the record, there is no guarantee Boston is a contender next season.

Really?

My guess is this year is their best chance at it.

Cap hell is right around the corner (might be this year) and they are going to lose some prime players.

Buffalo's management has a spotty record at best with handling UFAs and RFAs. IMO, they finally got their act together and learned from that offseason and didn't dick around with Jason Pominville or Derek Roy. They locked those two guys up to fair-market deals (below IMO with Roy).

So how is Boston's destruction going? It must REALLY piss you off to see most of the team intact again?
