What will happen with S. Koivu?

Just wondering what you guys think or have heard will happen with Saku over the summer. Since I moved out west there is no coverage of Montreal out here, or for that matter the eastern conference.

Sorry if it's been covered, I don't usually venture too far from the Sharks board or post very often.

It just makes sense for Koivu to go to Minnesota (Rolston type contract) and if Gaborik decides to leave I think Wild should sign Hossa.

It is time for Minnesota to start spending they have a very good core and I think they have enough cap space to make a few moves.

I think that given the opportunity, Koivu could become a really good 3rd line shut down center.

Maybe he goes to NJ and replaces Madden.

Koivu already said he didn't want to go to Minnesota because he doesn't want to mess with his brothers thing...

I could see him centering the Duck's second line, mainly to play with Selanne.

Maybe Anaheim to play with Teemu? If Teemu comes back anyway.

wow all 3 of us are feeling Saku on the Ducks with Selanne, I think it would be a solid addition for the Ducks.

He'll never be a shutdown center.

I think either he re-signs with the Habs and finishes out his career in Montreal or he bolts for Minnesota to play as the second line center behind his brother. I won't blame him if he leaves.

Koivu has already stated publicly (finnish papers) that Minny is Mikko's team and he doesn't want to cause any waves by going there.

So I'm pretty certain that Saku doesn't sign with the Wild.

I'd love to see Saku on Ducks 2nd line with Selanne.

I thought I remembered seeing something that he didn't want to go to Minny.

I'd love to see him in San Jose, the leadership that the Sharks desperately need and a solid 2nd/3rd line center.

Vancouver is my bet.

Gillis let Naslund walk away and instead Demitra.

Now I predict he'll let the Sedins walk and try and sign Gaborik and Hossa.

As others have already stated, he would fit in awesome in Anaheim!

Perry(5.325M)-Getzlaf(5.325M)-Ryan(1.9M)
Selanne(2.625M)-Koivu(?/4M)-Ebbett(.500M)

Pronger(6.25M)-Whitney(4M)
Niedermayer(?/6M)-Wisniewski(?/2.75M)

Hiller(1.3M)

That is a beyond solid core! 11 players(all the important ones) signed for 39.975M, leaving 16M to fill out the rest of the team. Giguere plays a big role with his 6M contract though..

I think Saku will re-sign for 3 years at 9 million(4-4-1). That's if they can add a number center(Lecavalier)

That doesnt mean he doesnt want to sign with the Wild. Im sure he would talk to Mikko and im sure Mikko would have no problem with his brother joining the Wild

Uh he's stated publicly on Canadian TV, more then once this year that one of the things he wants to do before he retires is play with his brother. This is not from a newspaper, this is from post game interviews.

No, he never said that. He said it would be nice, but he's stated many more times that the Wild is Mikko's team and he doesn't want to mess with that. And Mikko said he's happy to finally be out from his brother's shadow.

People have this weird misconception that these brothers are dying to play with each other. They are 10 years apart. Saku was gone playing hockey when Mikko was a little kid...They never grew up together or anything and they weren't even very close up until recently.

Well, he will probably do so in 2010, no matter with whom he signs.

It's widely speculated that Koivu already has a 2-year contract with Montreal.
