People have this weird misconception that these brothers are dying to play with each other. They are 10 years apart. Saku was gone playing hockey when Mikko was a little kid...They never grew up together or anything and they weren't even very close up until recently.
that doesnty mean he doesnt want to play with his borther in minnnesota. its miikos team with or withought saku and both would realize that

I think what happens to Saku this offseason has more to do with his contract demands than anything... is there any rumors what his demands are?

None at all. In fact, there is no news of any Habs players in terms of their demands...damn Gainey, keeps the info very sealed. Most rumors involving Mtl are BS, Gainey and his team doesn't leak anything. The Jacques Martin hiring was not rumoured and than BAM! That's the Gainey way!

finally after all the years of habs fans telling us Selanne would be going to Montreal, it's going to be Koivu coming to Anaheim. It's about time.

If he's not re-signing here, I hope he goes to the Ducks.

They might be countrymates, but I wonder what they're doing in this.

Koivu spoke about it right after they were swept by Boston, he said he would love to play with his brother but at the same time doesn't want to take away from his brothers spotlight in Minnesota.

I will try to find a link.

From what I've heard it doesn't sound like Montreal is too keen on re-signing Saku. http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=280075 I've been a big fan of Saku for years. I'd love to see him come to Minny, for the right price. I believe Saku still has a couple of years left in his tank. Hopefully he'll sign for about $4M. Not expecting any kind of "sibling" discount, but I still have hope that Fletcher is going to try and assemble a playoff contending team next season and I don't want us to devote too much of our cap space to Saku. He fills a need for a legit #2 playmaking center, but this team desperately needs finishers, via trade or free agency. Either way they don't come cheap.

I'd think that if he left he'd rather go somewhere that could win or even make the playoffs for that matter.

The article you're referring to is the rumour from Russia where Kovalev was apparently offered the captain C in Montreal and a fat contract. All of that has been denied by both Kovalev's agent and by the Habs' brass. Basing your opinion on that article would be a big mistake.

Fair enough. I didn't know about the denial aspect. I guess even TSN isn't immune to the rumor-mongering.

I say he goes to team x and becomes their mediocre 2nd line center.

Maybe he goes to NJ and replaces Madden.
I would cream myself if he came to NJ. But if he did, he would be the "second line" center and Zubrus (who centered Elias and Gionta this year) would likely be the third line shutdown guy if Madden doesn't re-sign.

If they Ducks can get a real center for their 2nd line they can be suddenly scary next season. It's basically the only element they lacked all season.

Unless we get a true #1 center we can't afford to let him go. That being said, he would look great in Anaheim. He shouldn't ask for more than 4m.

That too. Forgot to bring that up again. NOWHERE does it say Koivu wants to go to Minnesota. All it says is "so and so" thinks Koivu will go there and usually the source is some ******. All we have that is certain is Koivu telling Finnish newspapers that Minny is his brother's team, and he doesn't want to impose.

The Koivu brothers didn't even grow up together. Mikko has talked on his blog about how his brother moved away when Mikko was growing up and how they're happy to play together just on the national team. This comes from Mikko himself.

Maybe it's just me but I'll take their own word any day over "rumours." People hear a rumour and they run with it because it's what they want to believe 90% of the time.
