Playfair continues his cycle of demotion.

Still, he knows the organization very well and the style the team plays, making him a good fit for the farm team.

Great news.

I think Playfair will be a perfect fit in Abbotsford.

Is confirmed now, just announced in Abbotsford. Seems like a good man for the job.

Good to see it official. Playfair is a great hockey guy and it is nice to have him in the organization still. He'll do well down in Abbotsford.

Any word on the logo yet? O.o

N/M finally found an article reguarding the logo...

But there are obstacles. As of today, when Sweeting said the new jersey and logo was to be unveiled, the team does not have one after what was referred to by him as a "snag." That "snag" that was the proposed Heat logo may have come close to infringing on the trademark rights of another sports logo, according to Sweeting
Infringement on the Miami heat logo? Do the Flames own the original Atlanta Flaming A logo? hmmmm

As far as I know the flames own the Atlanta logo so I don't think that would be the problem.

my first thought.

In all seriousness though, it's a good move. Best wishes to Jim!

I love the move and am very happy to have him in the organization. I like Playfair alot, but recognized that he did have to step aside.

In terms of development, i think he has done a fantastic job developing talent over his time in both the Ahl and NHL. I think he'll do very well in Abbostford.

Glad their keeping him within the organization. I was surprised he took the "demotion" so quickly, with the new coaching staffs around the league I'd think he'd get some consideration (likely as an associate coach) in another organization.

What does this mean for McGill though? Hopefully they can retain him as well, likely at the NHL level.

If Darryl Sutter is coaching the team this season, I expect to see Ryan McGill by his side as an assistant coach.

Didn't want that. he wanted to be a head coach regardless of the level. He didn't want to stay as an assistant becuase he wants to be the "guy" again and run the bench. I'm betting no NHL either A)offered him a job of B) showed interest so he took the next best thing.

Great move, and I'm very happy Playfair took the job. I understood he had to leave the Flames, but I dind't want him to leave the organization. I think he is going to do a fantastci job in Abbotsford and the Flames are fortunate, IMO, he took it. Great teacher of the game.

Even though our defense was less than stellar this year (to put it nicely), I'd like to think he'll be able to develop the glut of young defensemen we'll have down there in the next couple years. I don't really care how well the team does so long as the players are learning what they need to learn.

I do. Better team=playoff run=more games for our prospects, and they get to play in some big games. Hopefully Irving can lead them to the playoffs this year! (And Backlund to by the looks of it right now!)
