he's said for a while that it was a mistake for him to sign his two-years contract. That he wanted to come in NA soooo much... seriously, wtf??? bargaining chip? Or is it just that he wanted a one-way contract which couldn't be guaranteed by BG?

too bad.. I saw him as a good replacement for komisarek.

What? A guy who has a hard time getting ice time in the KHL a good replacement for Komisarek. It's a joke right?

You "saw" him...you mean figuratively I hope. How could he not expect to spend a stint playing in Hamilton (and no not for the Hamiton Coyotes) I mean the guy wasn't exactly a 1st pair d-man playing in Siberia. I am not convinced at all he can step in and play in Komisarek's shoes. He is taking the big money to forego the bigger money later. Gainey did the responsible thing.

What a ******. How dare he stay in his country, where he grew up and where his family and friends reside, instead of moving over to a foreign country to play in a second rate league? (hint : Emelin isn't NHL material)

Wasted pick ...

well .. 2004 had good promise 2 years ago now we have almost nothing to show for..

Chipchura... Will he ever pan out ?
Emelin... still in Russia
Wyman... borderline AHLer
Grabovski... traded away
Lacasse... is he still under contract with us ?
Gleed.. career ECHLer
Greg Stewart.. Our best current prospect from that draft!
Streit.. Never resigned
Dulac-lemelin... Semi-pro bound

So is this pretty much it for Emelin? He'll be 24 after next season ends, and will have no experience in NA... I hear all the time that his play is being hampered by the style of the KHL.

That's too bad; I've only seen a handful of his games, but I thought we could've at least turned him into a solid, gritty #5-6 d-man. Maybe not this season, but in one or two years he'd be a good replacement for a guy like Bouillon.

How about getting the right Russians? How about doing a better job in really knowing their intentions? How the heck does the Rangers are able to convince Grachev and Anisimov to join their ranks while we're unable to do so?

I would definately ease down on russians. But I will not think that it's a wise decision to completely avoid them. Vokourov needs to do a better job to know their real intentions.

Makes me feel better though now that I thought he was playing like crap all year long....'Cause CLEARLY now we know that it wasn't because he was soooooo dissapointed to not have sign here that he was playing like this. He was playing like crap 'cause he was. We'll see if he rebounds next year. One thing is sure though....I won't waste my time watching him like I did last year....or maybe 1 or 2 games....

For sure that Franzen, Edler and Boyd would look great right about now....

People need to calm down.

The guy never signed a contract with Montreal and took the best deal. Good for him.

It's annoying as Hab fans, but it shouldn't damn him, his country or anything else.

Agreed on both counts. This is not a racist comment but rather a reality. Their family is there, they're getting paid tax free money... I don't blame them but when will we learn?

Racist is the wrong word, but it is generalizing.

The fact is, nationality should not matter. But any team that doesn't ask a player if they ever intend to play for them before drafting them is making a huge mistake. That goes for everyone from PK Subban to Emelin.

I am all for drafting Russians, just be sure to check with them to see if they want to come over before wasting a pick.

Let him rot in Russia. Had he came to NA he would've developed his game so much further but money is whats most important which is fine but its just disappointing. Oh well, live and learn, stay away from Russians unless they are high end talent a la Ovechkin and Malkin.

Can't wait for people to see Grachev and would love to read the same opinions again. You need to be more careful than anything. That's a fact. You cannot draft a Russian just because he's talented. It needs to go much further than that. Which doesn't seem to apply as far as the Habs management is concerned. That, I conceed that one to you, they don't seem to learn and do their homework.

But at the time of the draft, as of now, and in the future, I would take Grachev X1000 times more than any Kristo of this world.

Maybe less in number but more in quality and more in understanding if they want or not to come here. And especially if the guy is a freaking tall and talented centerman.

He's just a *****. Afraid that he isn't good enough to play in the NHL. Why come overseas and embarass yourself when you can stay at home and embarass yourself?

This kid was wayyyyyy overhyped cause he has a few good games against 17-19 year olds.
