Ottawa fan / massive Emery fan:

On the ice he's had one bad year in his career, his last year here in Ottawa. He thought he was owed something. He wasn't and he couldn't handle that.

Off the ice he's had issues, but for the most part not the end of the world scenarios that people seem to make them out to be. Of note is that none of his teammates say he was a bad teammate after the fact. A man can have problems without being a locker room cancer. He can go out and address some of these problems on his own, which I believe Emery did. This is no Avery situation.

Even if it's just for a year, you're going to love him. His style of play, his attitude on the ice, his temperment off it. He's got more personality than most entire teams. He is a better goalie than Biron. And if he does well, he's still going to be discountable because of his history, so he'd be a candidate for a long term lockup.

I thought this was a great fit all year, and I'm super happy for him. Obviously I want my sens to win it all, but failing that I'll be rooting for you (or rather him).

The most important part of this deal, for my money, is that Paddock is part of the organization. They no doubt ran this by him.

Paddock isn't coaching him though.

Wasn't it Paddock who also sent him home from practice?

He isn't coaching him, that's not my point.

You don't think that the Flyers asked him whether he thought Emery could get his **** together or not?

Paddock was mentioned in an article last week...

http://www.pottsmerc.com/articles/20...6093965473.txt

Quote:
So it was left to one of Holmgren’s management advisors and longtime colleagues, Phantoms head coach John Paddock, to fill in the blanks.

Paddock was once the Flyers assistant G.M. and in more recent years served as head coach and assistant coach for both the AHL and NHL teams in the Ottawa organization, where Emery developed into a top-tier goalie.

“He’s a real competitive and talented guy and the combination of both can lead to success,” Paddock said of Emery, who played under Paddock both for the Ottawa Senators and their AHL club in Binghamton, N.Y. “But he has to fit in the right way with an organization.

“If what J.P. said is true, and he gets another chance in the NHL and proves to be a hungry goalie, then there’s no question that he can take a team far.”

Emery’s biggest career problem has been his head.
Quote:
“I never thought he was a problem in the room,” Paddock said. “Actually, he was fairly quiet in the dressing room. It was just that when he went on the ice … he played hard. But we knew that was his profile when he turned pro.

“I don’t want to say that he was lazy, but he wasn’t the first player who didn’t put as much effort into his game after a little taste of success.”

Just gets better and better.

Maybe we can make the ECF again next year and that will be trumpeted as the success the franchise has been waiting for.

Again.

This scares me. Don't know if I'm ready for theTerrell Owens of hockey. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. Maybe the Soviets got him in line!

Excellent signing when this goes through tomorrow. No doubt Emery will have something to prove and let's face it his career depends on it.

Time to wrap up Jaybo as well to meet the Wings in the finals next season

As is normally the case, what works for Detroit (with their current team) may not necessarily work for anyone else.
GKJ asked for a good goaltender at cheap money.
I never said Osgood was great. but he is a good goaltender.

Personally, I think Emery's going to come in with something to prove... and he will do just that.

**** yeah!

I'm pretty excited about this. Now the next domino to fall in place...who else are the Flyers adding?

Bye Bye Biron? I still wonder if they could be a tandem, I don't think we can rule it yet just yet...or can we?

As if there was any doubt, that about proves it. Unless they're just playing golf.

Holmgren just didn't want Emery to drive.

Alright, I'm on board. Let's do this. Any ideas which number he takes? he can't have 1, or 31 for that matter...
