Would any of you Oil fans do:

To Edm:
Heater
Smith

To Ott:
POS
Eberle
2009 1st

Ottawa gets a decent replacement in Sully and a couple good future building blocks in the pick and Eberle (along with some Cap Space).

Not enough IMO for a 6-3 220lb multi 50 goal 100+ point player who is only 28 year old.

Ottawa must get a player who can contribute and get better in the NHL (a young player who's at least shown he is a mid 20's goal scorer to manage some of the risk of the other 2 peices), a bluechip prospect, and a top 5-6 lottery pick.

That isnt too much to ask for a superstar LW IMO.
1. Gagner and Cogliano >>>>> Foligno my friend... and they are 19 and 21 years old respectively. They have extremely high potential. Think Schenn, Voracek value here.

2. If you think Ottawa is going to get a young 25+goal scorer + elite prospect + top 5 lottery pick for Heatley, you are some kind of crazy. The contract coming is ENORMOUS!

Thats funny. It doesn't matter what the fans want-if management deems Souray as an ideal piece of the deal, they'll do that regardless of what fans think.

You think the Oilers didn't want to keep Gretzky?

Sorry but nobody is untouchable for a 28 year old who is capable of 50 goals and 100 points.

PHI should trade Richards ++ or Carter + for him then.

If we trade Heatley for garbage, it has to be cheap garbage. The proposals in this thread are not cheap garbage, and are hence unaceptable.

We either want:

An equivalent player (perhaps with a slightly worse contract)
Worse players + cap savings

Cogliano, Gilbert, 10 th overall

two lesser players who are very good and young and still getting better, lpus a top 10 pick who with good drafting will be an impact player in the NHL.

3 very good young players who have a cap hit of less than 7.5M

I read POS as Piece Of S... and thought you were talking about Penner. Eventually I figured it out.

Not taking the cap into consideration I bet the Oilers have no problem with that. Unfortunately the cap is a problem. Eberle and the 1st obviously don't have a cap hit and O'Sullivan only has a 2.925M cap hit. Smith and Heatley combine for 10.1M. So that's 7.175M coming back to the Oilers. Just not realistic.

Sources tell TSN the Edmonton Oilers is one team Heatley would consider waiving his no-trade clause to play for.
I don't hate hearing that.

So expect something like Cogliano, Gilbert, 1st. maybe more picks?

Gilbert is worth more than Smid so it evens out the difference between Cogs and Lupul. Also that 1st in this draft is worth more because of the talent.

Ottawa wont be getting Gagner or Eberle because they are the Oils future.

Tom Gilbert 4M cap hit.

To Edmonton
Danny Heatley 7.5M cap hit.
I don't quite understand the level of resistance against O'Sullivan, Gilbert and a 1st, when most seemed pretty positive about an offer of Michalek, Ehrhoff and a 2nd rounder. The ages, production and contracts are all quite similar... and although I think most would agree the SJ pair would be preferable, moving up 40 extra spots in the draft should make up for that.

Would Carter and Lupul for Kelly or Smith and Heatley be such a bad trade?
