OT- need help for flat screen TV

I need some help to choose a flat screen TV. After a major water flood in my condo my insurance is replacing my old Sony XBR. They approve me for the new Sony 52 inches flat screen XBR 9, but the price is much higher than the XBR 7 but with not a lot of extra feature I will use. With the difference I will be able to get a good surround sound system. I was wondering if anybody has the XBR 7 and what do you think about it. Thanks in advance.

Do you consider something else than Sony ?
In my opinion, although Sony XBR is quite good, it's over-priced. If you want to stay with LCD, I recommend Samsung.
The best HDTV would be Pioneer.

The XBR 7 is... okay. I haven't been too impressed with it, to be honest. If you have to stick with Sony though (which is unfortunate, as Samsung's products are way better for the price...), then I'd just go with the 7 over the 9. I haven't seen the 9 in person, but reading up on it... meh. Go with the 7, and get yourself a nice sound system.

Avoid the home theatre in a box option, though. They come with crappy receivers that will pretty much only allow you get a 5.1 sound if you use the DVD player built it. Buy a decent amp, and some quality speakers, and you'll be way happier.

All I know, from my research for the purchase of my new TV, Sony and Samsung (and Panasonic) are essentially the best you can get.

As to the finer features, often, especially the audio & video ones, are not really an issue. Our eyes and ears can't really notice a huge enough difference to make it worth considering.

Pioneer is often forgotten. It's top of the line, but really expensive.

Completely agreed.
Here's the order:
Pioneer (Plasma) >> Samsung (LCD) = Panasonic (Plasma) > Sony (LCD) >> everything else.

Meh, the Luxia 6000 (the 120 hz model) is pretty much the same thing. It'll be years until 240 hz is used, so...

wait, your insurance co. is telling you what brand you can buy? In my experience after a theft, my only limitation was cost, not the make or model.
