I think Koltsov has the best chance of cracking the Canucks roster in October and Shirokov has the best chance of providing value for the Canucks in a deadline trade. Therefore, it's going to be Kablukov.

My thoughts...

Likliest:
Sergei Shirokov - Gillis said "the best of the three" and he certainly has performed well in the men's league there. Coupled with his team's uncertainty and an expressed desire before being drafted to come to NA, I'd say he's the safe bet.

Middle:
Ilya Kablukov - Probably the worst of the three, but also was apparently interested in coming to NA which was why the Canucks took the chance and drafted him. More of a checker than anything, Kablukov would be a depth player wherever he went.

Unlikliest:
Kirill Koltsov - Probably the most talent and potential of the three, but Gillis prizes character and integrity. Koltsov rubbed a lot of people in the organization the wrong way with his departure back to Russia(Tambellini, Carlyle, then-Moose Captain Nolan Baumgartner all publically were critical of it) and I just don't see Gillis really rolling the dice to bring him back in. Koltsov also seems happy to ply his trade in Russia.

My two cents.

ummm so we dont know who is a free agent. Looks like its either Shirokov or Koltsov tho and either would be a nice addition.

Shirokov signed a 2 year deal 2 years ago, so I'm assuming he is not under contract for next year.

Koltsov is waaaay too old to be considered a prospect. Bieksa is only a year older than he is.

If he's talking about prospects, it has to be Shirokov.

Oh gosh, Shirokov will awesome, but Koltsov will just be better pure awesomeness. A guy like him will make a huge diffrence to our defensive line up and a guy that can take the puck out like will be vital.

Seems to me it's now or never for the 26 year old Koltsov as far as aspirations of playing in the NHL go.

...and did you just type the words oh gosh?

I believe it was Nonis that said that.

That was Nonis...I know because it was during an interview on 1040 and I'm the one who called in to ask him about Koltsov and Chubarov.

I think his actual wording is closer to something like "when he's on the ice, someone's going to score...we're just not sure which team."

If its Shirokov and he, Hodgson, and Grabner all somehow made the team out of camp, we'd have some serious depth.

Great signing and great to see Shirokov likely leave a lot of cash on the table to give NA a try.

where would you put him on a depth chart?

Imo, he is more talented and skilled than Alex Burrows but Burrows brings a lot of intangibles that Shirokov does not possess.

Sedin-Sedin-Shirokov

I'm convinced that this line would have great compatibility judging from Shirokov's tournament play and clips from youtube(I know).

Burrows is probably a better linemate for the Sedins...he'll go into the corners and fight for the puck. That's part of the Sedins' game.

I can really see Gillis trying to set up a kid line of Shirokov - Hodgson - Grabner. Man, that'd own so ****ing much.

Hopefully the Sedins are playing somewhere else and we wont have to worry about them playing with a rookie as our top line next year.

Well, some people were criticizing a Gaborik-Wellwood-Demitra line that I had proposed in another thread because it'd be too soft...wouldn't that same statement apply to this line?
