Take away salaries, what talent would you rather have on your team for the next 3-4 yrs? if i am the ducks, i think they have a better chance for the cup with heatley now, but for the future ryan.
Thats a huge factor in how people feel about this deal.

It's a little bit of what I had in mind where Guigere gets moved elsewhere and Ottawa picks up some salary to make things match up.

I'd be surprised if Anaheim didn't at least give it some decent thought. They went 7 games against Detroit, and put up a tough fight to the end. You would think adding a 40-50 goal, 100 pt player would be a move that puts them over the top.

They can expect the same production for about 3-4 years which gives them a nice window to work with. While Ryan is going to be a good player, it seems unlikely that he can offer the same sort of things right now, and it seems like his steal of a contract could get more expensive very soon anyway.

Unfortunately, depending on Niedermayer's decisions, the window could possibly end after next year or not be there at all and we will be in rebuild. So all Heatley would do after next year is not guarantee is a nice draft pick IMO, while Ryan can be there longer and most likely cheaper

and Ryan will be given every opportunity to prove himself...with the ducks, Heatley's salary is just to big for a player that cannot help a team win besides scoring goals

Scoring goals is the only way to win.

haha you guys know what Randall meant. There is more than 1 element to a hockey game and a hockey team, and if a 7.5 million dollar player can only provide one, albeit at a great rate, well then he probably isn't worth the hefty paycheck.

Guess what, salaries are exponential. Big name players are rarely worth it dollar-for-dollar.

It might help to prevent the opponent from scoring some, too. But I'm a goalie, I probably put too much emphasis on this...

bad trade for ducks, no way you trade ryan a budding young star power forward for heatley, just my thoughts on it. plus ducks cant afford to pay heatley that much.
