I figure the Kings would be an interested party given that they need some depth at LW while Lombardi has familiarity with Sturm. Sturm's contract wouldn't inhibit the Kings from making another big splash either.

Personally wouldn't be surprised if the Kings dangled Teddy Purcell or Brian Boyle. Both are young, cheap, and have some theoretical upside. LA has a boatload of picks from rounds 3-7 to include as well.

I've heard Sturm liked it out West. I'd ask him to waive his NTC and gladly take Brian Boyle back in return. What's Boyle make?

Zero desire for Brain Boyle. There is a reason he's included in every Kings trade proposal. He's a bust. I would venture to say I have seen 10 times more of him then most Kings fans on this site. I'm a season ticket holder to BC hockey and have been up to Manchester a dozen times to watch him.

Very good college player, one of the best Hockey East players I have seen over the past 15 years... and that's about it.

What do you think are Boston's biggest needs in return?

I'd love to see Marco back in San Jose but I'm doubtful it happens unless we move a forward back...

RFA this year. Salary was $750,000 for 2008-09 so the qualifying offer is $787,500 for a 2 way contract.

A smooth skating puck carrying defenseman, that can play top-4 minutes and make end-line to end-line rushes.

This does not mean Boston needs a "PP QB". They have enough guys to play that role, they just need a defenseman that won't turn the puck over, can make 'the outlet pass' and skate smoothly from end line to end line... Boston fans thought they had that in Lashoff, and he still might turn into that, but his progression was freaking slow.

3 problems with the B's moving Sturm.

A. He has a NTC
B. He's a top6 forward who plays LW, the Bruins only have one other LW who can play on the top 3 lines. Wheeler is much better off as he's said on the RW.
C. He played in only 19 games last year before having a serious knee injury. He's value probally isn't to high.

I'd rather move Kobasew and Ference/Ward and get a nice, cheap puck-moving defenseman.

How about Nashville's #41 and Cody Franson for Strum and a lower pick?

Beat me to it, although I was going to offer Nashville's 2nd in 2010.

I see Sturm's value being a 2nd round pick or a 3rd + 4th.

Has Franson dropped down the Preds food chain that much?

I've seen analog modems with more speed than Franson.

I have a higher opinion but I think he's expendable. Blum and Laasko I think are just as high
