Hamilton vs. Manitoba - Oct. 9, 2004...

the game is about to start, hopefully they can get their offense going tonight because it hasn't been overly powerful in the pre-season games to date.

keep up on the score here
http://www.theahl.com/SlamScoreboard/ahl-frameset.html

Dan Ellis gets the start and it looks like Locke gets a rest tonight as Urquhart comes back into the lineup.

not sure if it's radio or not

GO DOGS GO

Less then 2 minutes into the game, dogs are down 1-0

Sounds like a penalty filled game again

Manitoba scored again on the PP

make that 3-0 Manitoba

Plante scores 4-2 final.

Ferland SH (Morgan)
Plante (Daley Plekanec)

Ivanans was thrown out of the game for running the goalie, although the announcers said he was checked into the goalie.

I only hope they'll be more competitive than that this year.. wouldn't want my farm team to have a 0.333 w/l ratio!

I think it will make a big difference once Komisarek and Hainsey gets there. It would also help if Beauchemin was still there...

I was at the game last night and will try to sum it up here for you.

lineup-starting
ferland morgan ott
jancevski daley

other lines and pairings
higgins plekanec kostitsyn
milroy dusablon lambert
ivanans urquhart carpentier

archer plante
sanford shasby

danis-backup
1st period summary

morrison at 1:26
kesler at 7:18 pp
morrison at 7:49

1st period notes:
Hamilton not prepared to play and lots of lazy penaltys to start the game forced Ellis to face lots of rubber. It was 3 nothing after 7:49 but to say Ellis should have been pulled was wrong. He was not spectacular but was solid nonetheless. For instance,Morrison's 1st goal was a slick pass from the corner to the high slot and his one timer went five hole but it was a nice shot.Truth of the matter is the deffence really struggled in the 1st not Ellis.

2nd period summary

ferland (morgan) at 19:38 sh

2nd period notes
Much better period as the Moose had in my estimation no more than 3 scoring chances.Ferland's goal was the nicest play of the night.Beautiful pass from Morgan on a 2 on one where Morgan passed from Auld's right behind the defence right on the tape and Ferland deeked to the backhand while Auld slid way out of the net leaving him with a backhand that even I could have scored on.
Onther note-local boy Jimmy Roy still as obnoxious as ever.He was pleading innocence to the ref after a nasty knee on knee collision with Ferland leaving Ferland on the ice for a couple of minutes.
Now to the fireworks.Ivanans got caught with his head down behind the Moose net and got flattened. To his credit his got up right away as if nothing happened, but you could see he was quite pissed. The play left the Moose zone with Ivanans tracking down his agressor but he did not have time to do anything cause the puck got fired back in the Moose zone.So he turned around and went straight to the goaly just like a skud missile and the collision was quite severe leaving Auld almost knocked out cause his helmet went flying and he was down for what I estimate about 10 mins. There did seem to be some interference but I think the Moose were trying to save Auld from possible destruction. He got 5 and was tossed.

3rd period summary

mozjis at 4:45 pp
plante at 19:59 pp

3rd period notes
Back to the penaltys and this period you could see Higgins should be in the big leagues.Never have I seen someone so tenacious when trying to get the puck from someone else.when Higgins was on the ice shorthanded the Moose had eneormous difficulty in doing anything. They had a hard time getting passed the neutral zone with higgins there.Great all around.Even his stickhandling was great.Very fun to watch.Mozjis's goal was a nice top corner goal through a screen that left Ellis no chance and Plante's was a mad scramble around the net that was hard to determine what happened.

Benny's 3 stars
#1 Justin Morrison-scoring touch, very determined backchecker and very big boy who is not shy to throw his weight around.

#2 Chris Higgins-NHL skill and determination

#3 Alex Auld-kept his team in the game in the 2nd and kept playing despite the near death experience he had

BENNYS CONCLUSION-Komo will be a hugely welcome addition and even Hainsey if he wakes up.If we had the D, this game would have been different indeed.

I'm sure I forgot lots so if you have questions, fire away.I always enjoyed reading everone's reports up till now,so its my turn to pay you back.
If I am tardy in my response I will apologize now as I have 2 turkey diners to eat today, one at 1:00 and one at 5:00.But I will respond.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Benny
