And for cheap. If Emery's our starter at $1.5 million, they're expecting to pay MUCH less than that for a backup goalie next season. Emery just set the bar for the backup's pay.

The fact that Dreger is a moron, and the coach said he wouldn't let Esche go hopefully means that this has no merit.

Hypothetical: If our defense stays healthy in '04 and we inevitably win the cup, is Robert Esche still this piece of crap who can't win anything and only gives up huge rebounds.

Fact of the matter is, Esche played well for us the majority of the time he was here. No one is going to make him out to be a world beater, but as a BACKUP, who else do you want? He's better than Niittymaki.

If this happens I'm really gonna be pissed off. I'd rather have Bouch back. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Esche terrible last season over seas?

Yeah? The biggest rebound machine in the NHL just won a Stanley Cup.

I always defended Esche vs. Niittymaki. He took a lot of the blame for the season that shall not be named - but I never saw it as his fault. He was a solid goalie for us. I was actually disappointed when he was relegated to the 3rd string when we brought in Biron. Biron-Esche would've been a good combo.

It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to have him come back, I just think the idea of getting another exiled goalie from Russia really shows Holmgren's desperation because of his poor cap management.

I can't believe nobody else realizes this. I thought I was going crazy. Stop the first shot and get the rest of the team to commit to clearing out the rebounds and you're fine. I honestly think Fluery got better when he started giving up bigger rebounds because they now bounce right past the opposing team to his wings.

I'm all for Esche coming back...We sure were loving him in 04, and were dead confident in him the year we got Foppa and were expected to be Cup favorites.....

He was fine, I think he was just on a team after the lockout that was on a downward slop...now he gets a chance to play on a better team.

Our team was horrible in 06

I remember our plan for the playoffs was that we'd do really well if the refs called games differently than they did in the regular season. What a joke.

I still can't believe we won 2 games against Buffalo.

Why not bring in Brian Boucher as a backup?

I wouldn't object to that.

No it wasn't, not at first at least. Remember..we had the best record in the NHL about mid-way through I believe....it just tailed off from there.

We won 2 games against Buffalo because Forsberg is the ****ing man.

I never really understood why people bashed Esche so much. When he left, everyone was so pro-Nitty, but that team ended up with the worst record in the NHL. Esche took us within one game of the SCF. He's played great in Russia, so why not sign him cheap?

Maybe so, but please don't ignore the fact that he broke the Emery to Flyers news.

Dreger is still a moron. The same guy who suggested we trade Richards at the 2007 deadline because it wasn't working out.

Not denying his tardness, but it sounds like he's got good sources over in the KHL.

I actually live like 2 minutes away from Esches house in NY, according to someone that "knows him" Esche makes around 900K tax free and "loves it" in Europe where he makes good money plays a ton. And the kid (a college kid who knows his brother supposably) that he only would return to the NHL for an increase in money or ample playing time. Once again you can believe that for what its worth, or it could be some kid talking like many do. But, I know Esche did alot of benefits in NY and was great friends with a lot of the Flyers so maybe something like 1.5 million and a chance at the starting job would lure Esche back in pretty easy.
