Trade offer from Boston

Atlanta need a defensive D-man (from what I've heard), and Boston needs to clear a bit of cap space. Would any of these deals benefit Atlanta?:

To Atlanta: Aaron Ward, Jonny Boychuk
To Boston: 45th pick

To Atlanta: Aaron Ward
To Boston: Grant Lewis

Not interested in your overinflated salaries hitched to washed up players.

Huh... Odd, because Boston has none of those on the roster.

Ward just had, arguably, one of the best seasons of his career.... A shut-down D-man for 2.5M is a pretty decent deal nowadays.

Aaron Ward for the 45th pick is not a bad proposal as far as worth is considered. Ward is a good player and a great leader, I don't know if he is what Atlanta needs though.

Except Zhitnik was traded for, at the time, a top prospect who had just gone top 10 in the draft a few years prior, in Braydon Coburn... Ward will cost a mid-round pick or prospect.

Zhitnik was billed more as an offensive D-man who could man the point on the power play.

I'd take either deal, really.

I guess the way I'm really looking at it is Atlanta, for so long, kept picking up older guys towards the end of their careers...I'd rather see some youth in the lineup. I'm just thinking back to a time when our defense consisted of Nic Havelid, Greg DeVries, Alexi Zhitnik, Shane Hnidy and Andy Sutton.

I don't really see him fitting anywhere here. I personally say no.

Value-wise I think it's fair, but I agree -- it's not the direction I want the Thrashers to go.

Right. I was speaking more along the lines of value.

We need a defensive D-man, but I'm not sure we should take an older guy. I'd rather get someone who has some wheels and can get back quickly to prevent a breakaway or odd-man rush.
