Yeah, I'd rather have Asham than Ross. Good veteran with size and plays like a Flyer. He doesn't hurt you when he's out there and chips in some goals every now and then.

Keep Asham, he's a good fourth liner who can even play some on the third line if you need him.

quick question. on nhlscap.com what number am i looking at is it actual payroll or salary cap payroll?

like 2009/10:

actual payroll:52,135,000
salary cap payroll:49,901,250

if the cap stays at 57 we'll have what 4,865,000 or 7,098,750. as of right now.

Salary cap payroll. The other one is what the players are actually making, but it's really not important that Briere is making $8M or whatever this year.

Two quotes from yesterdays press conference according to the Flyers Website:

Quote:
On how far the team is under the salary cap:

“A little north of four [million].”

On which prospects could make an impact on the Flyers next year:

“I think there are a number of guys that could. [Andreas] Nodl, depending on the role that’s available. Jon Kalinski played some games for us. I’m not ruling out [James] van Riemsdyk. With James we have to be a little more careful because he’s young, but Kalinski and Nodl have got a year under their belt of pro hockey and have played games for us. You’re trying to fit pieces in, and roles, and to be honest salary comes into play, too.”
Twelve Forwards
Daniel Briere -- 6.500.000
Mike Richards -- 5.750.000
Simon Gagne -- 5.250.000
Jeff Carter -- 5.000.000
Joffrey Lupul -- 4.250.000
Scott Hartnell -- 4.200.000
Daniel Carcillo -- 893.750
Jon Kalinski -- 875.000
Claude Giroux -- 821.667
Arron Asham -- 640.000
Riley Cote -- 550.000
Darroll Powe -- 520.000
Sum: 35.250.417

Five Defensemen
Kimmo Timonen -- 6.333.333
Matt Carle -- 3.437.500
Randy Jones -- 2.750.000
Braydon Coburn -- 1.300.000
Ryan Parent -- 855.000
Sum: 14.675.833

One Goaltender
Ray Emery -- 1.500.000
Sum: 1.500.000

56.700.000 <== Upper Limit (Best Guess)
51.426.250 <== Eighteen Players
05.273.750 <== Cap Space

Roughly five million to sign Knuble, Alberts, a 7th Defenseman and a Backup.

It is actually quite surprising how set this team already is. I like that we do not have to throw ourselves directly into the fray of free agency. I'd really like to see Knuble re-signed though. Alberts is not a top priority but I guess we could use a decent physical defenseman.

@Rick Deckard: Sbisa or Syvret (who'd need to be res.igned) would be likely applicants for 7th D-Man.

I'll be shocked if there isn't some movement amongst our D. Not sure what it will be, but all signs point towards Holmgren wanting to do something there, so expect some movement.

I expect something big also.

Holmgrem wants to make a splash on D, and I think Lupul goes to a team looking for some offense.

I am hoping that Holmgren was playing his cards close to the vest sort to speak when he said he likes our defense. He did say we needed a physical dman. I really hope he doesnt consiter Alberts to be that answer in that regard.
Of course it doesnt matter who we add if the group we have hasnt learned to play as a unit.

Who knows, I think one of our D -- even if he moves Lupul -- will move in one fashion or another too.

He said the other day that they are trying to sign Alberts...so expect him back. I have no problem with that, as he'll be relatively cheap. They just need to figure out how to avoid Alberts played at the beginning and end of his season...as he was brutal to start and finish, while playing fine in the middle of the season.

Hey Rick,

Just an FYI there are 12 forwards listed there. Otherwise, thanks for the breakdown.

FWIW -- this is from Homer...

http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/...es_injury.html

Quote:
Holmgren said the club is a little under $5 million under the salary cap - not much money when you consider that the Flyers still need a right winger, a backup goalie, and perhaps a seventh defensemen and a fourth-line center who is skilled at winning face-offs. .

That ist what Holmgren said during the press conference for Emery:

Quote:

Since then the Pronger trade was the only change, and we added two million of salary with it.
