Jussi Jokinen

Dude's a shootout god and he was pretty damn good in the playoffs this year.

What do you think he'll command?

That guy was unreal in clutch situations in the playoffs... I haven't seen anything like that in awhile.

Some team will throw 2 mill at him on a 2 or 3 year deal.

His qualifying offer is $1.875M, so probably somewhere around there.

He "only" went 5-for-12 this season, but that included a 1-for-7 stretch to start the season. After that he went 4-for-5.

Regardless of Jokinen's shootout skills, he is still a good player. Very good at killing penalties, has traditionally put up good PP numbers, wins face-offs, and can be used at any forward position.

He is extremely predictable now. He has 2 moves and that is it and goalies are aware of it. The problem with Jussi is that when he is hot he is hot and when he is cold (mostly) he is ICE COLD. If he could be a more steady player he would get better money.

Going 4 for 5 at one point makes me believe he's either got more than 2 moves, or goalies aren't learning quick enough. Especially considering he just changed teams in the division, meaning he faced a lot of the same goalies over and over again.

So what happened in the 1-7 he went prior? Any player can go on a stretch and score 4 of 5 in a shootout. Trust me i have seen him play in Dallas for a few years and in other than the 1st year he was average at best. His 1st year he was lights out.

The Sabres should have claimed him...

I can't believe Regier sometimes. Instead of getting someone for nothing and with no risk involved, we traded the second we got from the Kotalik deal for Dominic Moore, who didn't fit into our lineup.

Back on topic, he'll probably get around the $2 million range for a fairly short term (2 years, maybe 3 if he's lucky).

For Jussi its all about confidence. If his confidence is up he puts most shootout shots in and plays on a whole different level. The problem is that when he hits bad streak his confidence can stay low for a long time. He has not been the same since his first season but i seriously think next season he could have as much as 50 points.

1.5 mil sounds good.

Any player can go on a stretch and miss 6 of 7 as well. In fact, that's probably a lot easier to do.

It's also interesting to note that he nearly scored an identical goal to Walker's eventual game winner against Boston like 2 minutes before. That would have cemented his status as 2009 (clutch) playoff legend. Imagine the resume:

GWG with 0.2 left in Game 4 vs. New Jersey
Game-tying goal with 1:30ish left in Game 7 vs. New Jersey
GWG in OT in Game 3 vs. Boston
GWG in the 3rd period of Game 4 vs. Boston
GWG in OT in Game 7 vs. Boston

Those 4 GWG would have led the playoffs.

So he scored some clutch goals....good for him. That does not take away from the fact that his play is so streaky teams get sick of it and bench him. All that will come into play when looking for a new contract with any team. I would say at the most he will get $1.75mil per.
