I reckon being top 5 in the NHL qualifies you for top 10 in the world. I'm glad I found this early so I can register my vote and now click on ignore. I don't want to get swept up in another wave of Weber wovers.

I think he's teetering on Top 5, when the Niedermeyers and Prongers begin to lose a step he'll be there

In my estimation, the top 10 are (in no particular order):

Lidstrom, Pronger, Niedermayer, Chara, Regher, Keith, Weber, Timonen, Boyle, Gonchar.

That leaves Markov just on the outside looking in, in the same group as guys like Kaberle, Rafalski or Bouwmeester. But these rankings are incredibly arbitrary...he's a very good top pairing player, that should be enough.

Yikes. Thankfully we don't share the same estimation.

Keith no way. Regehr no way. Timonen not anymore. And Weber is a toss up.

Just yikes.

For the NHL, no doubt, IMO.

I haven't seen enough of RUssian/Swedish/whoever D-men to rank the world... But I did hear that some Dallman (?) guy playing in the KHL is supposedly pretty sick.

How is Regehr better than any player mentioned in this post? I would take any of them before Regehr, including Markov.

The rest, I guess you're entitled to your opinion, but Markov should definitely be in over a couple others too... so yes, Markov is a top 10 Dman.

Of course he's top 10. If you asked if' he's top 5, you might have some controversy, but he's pretty obviously top 10.

Top 10 easily. I would dare say he's top 5.
Lidstrom,Chara,Pronger,Niedermayer and Markov.
Some would argue even top 3, Lidstrom,Chara and Markov.

Markov has now surpassed the likes of Timonen, Boyle, Gonchar by just a bit i will add but still better now. He's always been better than Keith, Weber and did Regher has never been near him.

6) Boyle
7) Markov
8) Timonen
