I've thought for a few years now Pyatt would have a slight breakout. He's not going to reach his draft potential obviously, but he could be, for lack of a better comparison, a Ryan Malone lite. Play on the second line, big body, pretty good skater, get his 22-24 goals/50 points.

But, if the Pens want someone who is going to fit the top 6, they are probably better off giving Fedotenko a little over $2M again then getting Pyatt for a little less, only to find out he can't hang in the top 6. If we didn't already have Cooke and Kennedy, I'd take a shot.

Some funny posts. No way Pittsburgh parts with Staal. Not many players in the NHL they would move him for 1 for 1. You guys underestimate his value but I can tell you that you might as well not bother making any proposals that include him or Malkin.

They can't afford to keep him nor can they afford to move him 1for1. They've gotta look to add some depth. Otherwise, they'll barely have the cap space to sign 1 more legitamite top 6 winger and 1 more legitamite top 4 defenceman. They need 3 more top 6 forwards.

I definitely don't think that's necessarily true. Look at the line-up they won the Cup with, surely they can put something out there that's as good under the salary cap, and Crosby, Malkin, Staal and others are only going to be better this season.

Pens should re-sign Fedotenko, trade away Dupuis inflated salary and sign Zigomanis for the 4th line. Then they only need to find a right winger for Crosby (maybe Guerin will come back) and then the only holes left can be filled by one of their quite solid AHLers.

Versteeg, Barker and 2009 28th overall pick for Staal

Pens get a Calder finalist winger, PP QBack type young dman and the 28th overall

Hawks get the #2 big center they need and some cap space. Skille comes into the lineup on the 3rd line and Chicago makes an attempt at Komisarek. Way too many dmen with the same type of game so Barker is the odd man out.

Thoughts?

How about something along the lines of:

To Pittsburgh: Hunter, Nielsen and Gervais

To Long Island: Staal

+/- to even out the trade if need be.

(according to nhlnumbers.com)
Hunter is signed for the next four seasons at a cap hit of $2 million.
Nielsen is signed for the next three seasons at a cap hit of $525,000.
Gervais is signed for the next two seasons at a cap hit of $741,000.

All 3 contracts can be considered good value which would provide Pittsburgh with depth for at least the next couple seasons and save them a bit of money and cap hit.

Hunter is 28, Nielsen is 25 and Gervais is 24.

Hunter we all know what he provides.
Nielsen can be the 3rd line defensive center while still having some offensive ability.
Gervais can provide a bit of defense and offense from the blueline.

The Isles get Staal, cap hit of $4 million for the next four years who adds talent and size which the Isles lack both of.

Trading with a rival isn't ideal but in this case does it really matter considering Pittsburgh just won the cup and have a great chance to do so next season and perhaps the seasons afterwards.

Is it really biting the Isles in the ass if Pittsburgh wins it again next season?

Is it really biting the Pens in the ass if they win the cup next season while Staal improves the Isles but still not enough to compete with them?

I don't know, I was just throwing this out there as I think a trade as such would benefit both teams equally.

I am not in the "sign Fedotenko at all costs" category. I mean I would take him, but lets not overrate him...

Sullivan would be great, if he comes cheap and "wants to be here"

Crosby/Guerin/Sullivan
Malkin/Kunitz/Talbot

I like that a lot...Not sure what that does to Scuderi though...

I think that's a good trade, the Pens get back some talented young players in this deal. But we don't have a need for Barker right not with Gonchar, Letang, and Goligoski this season. Maybe this trade would make more sense next year if Gonchar doesn't come back.

I'm really curious to see what the market value for him is if he doesn't re-sign with Nashville. I love him as a player but his health concerns have to make most GM's a bit cautious with the type of deal they offer him.

Chicago over pays by giving up Barker and Versteeg, let alone another draft pick for Staal. That's the wrong brother for that trade.

How about James Neal for Gologoski?

Young, cheap scoring winger who's proven he can score at the NHL level. He'd be great with either Crosby or Malkin.

I agree- Steve Sullivan is likely to wind up a Pen for a 2 yr deal $2.8M to $3.2M per year.

I'd be worried about his back though...

Is he going to have problems with it again?

I'd think we'd have to add our First,I'm pretty sure Neal is close to untouchable for Dallas.
