No disrespect to the Blue Jays, but they're a mediocre team. I can handle losing two out of three from the Red Sox, as they're one of the truly elite teams in the game, but the Phillies need to beat teams like the Blue Jays at home, especially when they don't even have to face Halladay. What a dreadful homestand.
The Jays are better than mediocre. Their hitting has been incredible and they've had some nice surprises with pitchers like Richmond who I thought was going to get slaughtered this year. Everyone knows what Halliday can do but there's been one injury after another and they just keep chugging along.

No, they really aren't. One needs to only look at their lineup and the fact that they started the season by playing way, way over their heads and are under .500 since. This is the same team that looked horrendous only days ago as they were swept by the Marlins. They're not bad, but they're not what I would consider good. The Phillies need to beat teams like this, and sure as hell need to avoid getting swept by them at home.

Sure thing. Bartlett came off the DL so Rollins is sort of superfluous anyway unless he returns to '07 form.

Lucky me got to sit near a bunch of ******* on Tuesday that were yelling at the Jays fans siting in front of us for half the game. They did eventually get thrown out but it was like in the 9th inning.

LOL at the person that said the Jays a mediocre team when they are 1 game behind first in the AL Wild Card and they have more wins the the Phillies. I uploaded that video last night. Great stuff.

No, they really are a good team. Did they play over their head out of the gate? Absolutely. Have they played below their level since then? Absolutely. That's how those things go, it's an up-and-down season...and the Jays were up and then down.

The only "bad" team in the AL East is the Orioles, the rest of them are good, if not great teams.

Hey, im not saying they'll make the playoffs, although it's a big possibility. The team has the 2nd best batting avg as a team in the AL, have the most RBI's, most runs scored and are 3rd in home runs. Reason they have been losing games recently is because they have had bad pitching outside of Halladay. And to call a team mediocre when they have had so many consecutive winning seasons is just ignorant. Also put into consideration that they play in the toughest division in possibly all of sports. Last season, they had a better record than division champs LA Dodgers but they finished 4th in the AL East.

And let me add that your Phillies, finished with only 6 more wins than Toronto did last season. Does that make them mediocre too?

Phils just seem to be doing their usual June swoon, same thing happened last year I believe and they really didn't snap out of it until September.

I think that's the perception of fans outside of the Blue Jays nest...is that they haven't made the playoffs in several years, so they aren't THAT good. Like you said, they play in the same division as the Yankees and Red Sox.

Phillies also won the WS last season. Not exactly mediocre.

Anyway, Opus, the Yankees spend more then the bottom 4 teams on this list on salary COMBINED. They actually spend $11 million MORE then the bottom 4 teams combined.

In fact, the Yankees pay Jeter and A-Rod MORE then San Diego pays their WHOLE team.

The Yankees even spend TWICE what the Dodgers spend. Haha. The Yanks must have spent nearly $1.5 billion in salary this past decade and have not won the WS the whole time.
