Doan just came off the two best seasons of his career. This year, he'll want to solidify his place on the olympic roster. He could be further re-energized with a more competitive team in a Canadian market (where "hockey matters" and all that).

Do you foresee him being on the downswing in spite of those circumstances?

Seriously though, all of these proposals are pretty brutal.

Yea, and Hemsky is already passed Doan's level at this point, while Doan is 32 and Hemsky is 25.

This is more for a value based trade, granted this will never happen, nor did I research contracts, which I believe Souray is a UFA, no?

Thoughts?
i think this proposal speaks volumes.......

Am I the only Oil fan who would happily trade Hemsky for Mueller? I think straight up Mueller is better.

How on earth do you work that out?

Hemsky has never scored more goals than Doan and doesnt usually get more points either. Cant see how you could claim Hemsky has passed Doan in intangibles either so I'm at a loss to see how you think that.

Yes you are. I'll expect you to resign as an Oilers fan because of it.

Ask PHX fans what they think of your idea and they won't let you finish your sentence, Meuller will already be on a plane to E-town. He's got a shot, but he is inconsistent defensively (still young though), doesn't play a remotely physical game when you consider what you might expect of a guy with his size, and even if he had a microscope out there he wouldn't see the ice as good as Hemmer.

To build off the original deal (which was hilarious in so many ways - somehow we get the 8th overall???), I would do this:

Jovo
Doan
6th overall
CGY's 1st 2010

for

Hemsky
Souray
EDM 2nd 2010

I like Doan a lot. I wouldn't put him and Hemmer equal in value because of age, potential (I think Hemsky should be an 85-90pt guy before his contract expires), and a slightly better cap hit.

Souray vs Jovo, Souray wins by a mile. The only area they are even in is toughness/fighting (and Jovo's a bit better of a skater). A (slightly) younger guy on a better contract with 20G from the back end. In fact, the contracts are quite a big issue when you consider:
The Oil will spend to the cap. Jovo, despite being on the books for 6 per the next 2 years, is a hit of 6.5.

The Yotes (outside of being moved or being bought by a gazillionare) won't be a team spending to the cap, making Souray's 5.4 hit moot after this year (5.5 this yr 4.5 the next 2).

Doan is a lock for 28G 68pts (his average - prorated to 82 games - over the last 5 yrs). Add the pick(s) and I'll take on Jovo's crap contract while giving up one of the best PP triggerman in the game and one of the best puckhandlers in the game.

So is this like a three way with the Rangers or what?

Honestly, I'd give up anything for Al Montoya.

Why? Montoya hasn't proven anything in the NHL yet and for the last couple years his junior record is barely .500?

The only way you get rid of Souray is if an impact player is coming from somewhere else and plays for the Oilers right away. He was too productive and valueable to that team to give him up for something that doesn't pay dividends right away.

Both are on good contracts - Doan may bring a little more of what the Oilers need right now. Hemsky may be a nice fit with the yotes younger players (scorers).
I love Doan's game, but even if the Oilers traded Hemsky for Doan ++, I would start smashing stuff.

You think Mueller is better than Hemsky????? I'm do not know what to say with out getting another infraction

Any deal for Doan probably wouldnt include Hemsky(defeating the purpose of aquiring a player like Doan) Actually any deal for Doan will probably be for young players, picks, and cheap prospects. Unfortunately its going to be a bad year with all of the off ice distractions for Phoenix. Which is too bad as they have some great young players.

How about-
Cogliano(.870), 2010 1st, and Smid(RFA 1.8-2.0)
for
Doan(4.55)
