Kenny Jönsson Retires

Thought I'd post it here too. Former NHL defenseman Kenny Jönsson calls it quits after five seasons for his hometown team of Rögle.
He says that he doesn't have the drive and motivation to continue playing.

"defenseman" is a pretty loose term.

I'm guessing since its a 'drive and motivation' thing he likely isn't planning on trying to play for Sweden in the Olympics next year? Best defenseman in the tournament honors at the last Olympics, played pretty beastly gunning for that gold last time.

So much for the dark horse candidate to mentor Hedman. Sorry to see him hang em up and hope he gets on with a good life post hockey.

That is a huge blow to the swedish olympic team... I'd love to see him play for a few more seasons.. too bad.

Good Luck Kenny.

Great player. Too bad Lou couldn't land him a few years ago.

You clearly have no idea what Sweden is about fashion-wise.

I thought the same thing.

Always liked Kenny and thought he was often under-appreciated on the Island. Guy did what was best for he and his family... gotta respect that.

Confirmed signing with link?

Kenny was great defenseman, definitely nhl-caliber player last season even he played in the swedish league for few years.

What are you talking about? Jonsson was an excellent NHL defenseman.

This made it on to ESPN's bottom line. Impressive.

He had many over the years, but Aucoin was his partner from 01-04.

The Isles didn't know what they had till KJ left. What a hockey player he was.
