This thread is about the Sabres wanting to get rid of salary. Your post asks a rhetorical question about something we're not talking about.

(Also, for $7 million, might as well sign Bouwmeester.)

yea, might as well... the Sabres could use a puck moving dman like him who's also experienced in a shutdown role. Just because the Sabres need him, and he's a UFA, they might as well just sign him and address their needs without giving up any assets.

Of course he did say he wants to play in Western Canada, and he gave a list of 6 teams to the Panthers were he'd except a trade to right now, which the Sabres weren't on... not to mention that there are probably 20 other teams in the league that would love to have him... but those are just unnecessary details.

just because the Sabres want him and have a need for him, obviously they can just sign him as a UFA!

Good point. I forgot about that. But Kotalik was Buffalo's garbage. Stafford and Gaustad are actually assets with value.

I agree. There are far bigger (pun intended) needs for Buffalo. This myth that they are in desperate need of a puck moving defensemen is just not accurate. In fact I don't think they are even particularly desperate for a stay at home defensemen. They have some really good young defensemen in guys like Butler, Sekera, Myers, Weber, T.J Brennan stocking the D shelf nicely. It is their lack of top 6 forwards (especially center) and a lack of size and toughness that is of greater concern.

I think people figured they lost Campbell so therefore they must be in depserate need of a puck mover. It is just not accurate IMO.
