Lasse Kukkonen to Avangard Omsk (KHL)

He signs with the same team Ramo signed for.
Two years deal

Lasse was a really solid bottom pairing guy during his time as a Blackhawk. Weird to see him not sticking somewhere in the NHL.

Not just that, but he didn't get to play much with the Flyers. And had to play out of his own position too. On some other team he would've been an NHL regular. Too bad he didn't feel like trying on a different team. That's probably where the money comes into play.

A lot of Finns seem to not mind going to Russia. It's weird, I wouldn't play there no matter how much they paid. I guess I'm kind of prejudiced towards the whole country.

It is easy to say if you have no chance of playing in the KHL. But if a KHL club offered you $1 million tax free you would take that in a heartbeat. All of us would.

And you should get rid of your prejudices. Russia is a great country.

If I were that good that a KHL club would offer me that kind of money, I bet I could make a decent living playing somewhere else too. And yeah, I probably should get rid of them, but it's just hard when everyone you know who goes there and comes back really doesn't have too much good to say about the place. Going there myself would be the only way to get rid of them, and with recommendations like I've gotten I'm never going to go there.

I'm sure it's not that bad for hockey players, though.

KHL teams offer many players 3-5 times more than any other league would. If you could get $1 million tax free in Russia and $200,000 minus taxes in Finland would you still prefer Finland?

Really? Many people that have visited Russia have said good things about it. It depends where you go. Russia has some very nice cities like St.Petersburgh, Kazan and Tyumen. Moscow might be too big and crowdy though.

He's decent enough, but Stevens really hates the guy.

It's a shame what happened to him in Philly. I don't know if he ****ed Stevens wife but he was in his friggin' doghouse. Goddammit, i really hate John ****ing Stevens.

I think Kukkonen is a decent Bottom-pair guy. Blocks a ton of shots and rarely makes errors.

Another team should've given him a shot.

I liked Kukkonen, and he was much better then Randy Jones.

Salary wise, Jones' ridiculous contract had to be played over Kukkonen, so down to the NHL it was for him.

I'm disappointed. I would have liked to see Kukkonen come to Carolina to play with his friend Pitkanen. Not that Kukkonen is a Top 4 defenseman, but he is almost certainly better at playing defense than Babchuk or Kaberle (our other Top 4 options with Seidenberg gone ).

First Ramo, now Kukkonen. Omsk should change their colors from black and red to blue and white if this keeps up.

Too bad, I always liked Tallahassee Lassie and it saddens me to see him leave the NHL.

I think I'm slowly starting to dislike the Flyer organization with the way they have treated two of my favorite d-men, first Ossi, now Lasse.

I don't know about anyone else but the prospect of a Kukkonen-Väänänen 3rd d-pairing at the games in Vancouver next year already has me salivating.

Absolutely. Favoring former Phantoms all that time (like Jim Vandermeer, who if anyone remembers was about the worst d-man in the league that year), telling Kukkonen that he needed to learn "the team concept" or whatever...If I'm not mistaken, Kukkonen was a young captain in the SM-Liiga A...Kukkonen is such a great team player, he'll block a shot with his face if it means helping his team...

It may not be a major loss, but to me it's a needless loss to the KHL, this guy can definitely play a regular role at the NHL level and be at the very least competent...

Good luck, Lasse!
