Rumour: Oilers and Nashville

http://thepipelineshow.blogspot.com
Dean Millard is not just any hockey blogger(host of Global Sports, and Co-host of the Pipeline radio show) He rarely posts any rumours, so I think there might be something to this.
Robert Nilsson and a mid round pick for Tootoo
I know Tootoo is the most popular player in Preds history so I think it might cost a bit more. Thoughts?

Tootoo is fast, brings a lot of energy, and is really adapting to his role as an agitator. That said, I would definitely consider this. I don't know if I'd actually do it, but I like the offer.

EDIT: This seems like pure speculation on his part, so I wouldn't put much stock into it.

Yes and no.

Yes because Nilsson has offensive creativity, and we need that desperately.

No, because he's small and isn't that strong on the puck.

But really, the main reason I would consider it is because I just want to get rid of Tootoo and all those stupid whistles.

I feel that this season, with his hitting and fighting greatly reduced and his focus on "being a hockey player," Jordin Tootoo was probably the most useless player on the team.

That said, we can't trade him simply for his popularity. It's a frustrating thing, but it's reality.

I'm not a big Tootoo fan myself, so if I was running the show, he would have been gone a long time ago.

Getting Nilsson doesn't sound like a good return, though. Twice the price of JT and his 1/2 point per game isn't anything that a lot of other players in this league can't easily accomplish. That AND he doesn't bring anything else to the table. Tootoo is at least a pugilist and a ****-disturber. Nilsson is a mediocre 3rd line forward. Meh.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

The Pipeline show is one of the most respected prospect orientated radio shows in existence. Look who writes for this website you are posting on and look who does the pipeline show.

Maybe you should check who Guy Flaming and Dean Millard are before you speculate on them being Eklund wannabe's.

Yes, simply put, Nashville has enough players to fill Tootoo's role, Belak is the enforcer of the team and to me, Nilsson is a push compared to Tootoo.

I have no problem moving Tootoo. I used to really like Nilsson, but he was terrible under MacTavish.....

I'm sorry I insulted your David Cassidy. I call it like I see it. Bogus rumors left and right...comparisons are drawn to Eklund. If that discredits me in your eyes, I'm confident that one day I'll get over it.

I think the Predators have plenty of 3rd 4th line guys. I do think Tootoo has some value in that opposing players know when he is on the ice and maybe that causes a couple of turnovers that lead to scoring chances. In general I think he is a knuckle head but I don't think he is trying to come over as a highly skilled or highly intellectual guy. I think he, along with the rest of us, understand that he is not going to produce like Theo Fluery (heard some of those comparisions early in his career), but I will say he has played better than some of our skilled players in the playoffs. All that being said, I think the trade might be fair on paper but I'm not sure it really gives the Preds something they already don't have an abundance of.

that's worse than nilsson.

If anything, I'd want to see what I could do to make it Cogliano, who I've read has fallen somewhat out of favor in Edmonton.

Sure start with Pekka Rinne.
Cogliano was mishandled by Mact and put in the 3rd line centre role with two pluggers and still put respectable sophomore numbers up

i'll start with Pekka Rinne when you start with Ales Hemsky

I'm just going on what I've seen in my lurking on the Oilers boards. Fans seem disillusioned and I remember at the time he was drafted he was said to have some attitude\cockiness issues.

WTF are you talking about???? Never has Cogliano been regarded as a player with "attitude\cockiness issues". NEVER!
If thats the player you want, then Rob Schremp is your man. You can have him for a signed Trotz puck so I don't have to hear about him anymore on the Oilers board

I think it's fair to say neck confused Schremp and Coligano.

Simply put, TooToo's marketing value is good for Nashville. I'm talking about the number of fans who come to a game just because they have heard his name and what he does. Revenues increase in beer sales, food, trinkets from the store, etc...Not that you could ever compare him to a David Beckham, but the concept is the same from a marketing sales standpoint.

I understand trading him for more offense, but Nilson isn't the answer. Hell, I'd take Cal O'Reilly over him.
