Knicks buy 29th pick from Lakers for $3million

Just thought I'd put this here for the next time someone doubts that MSG doesn't flinch at throwing money around. Back to the wall, the Rangers would bury a high paid player in the minors without question.

Unfortunate that the Rangers can't buy picks... teams in financial distress like Phoenix could really use the cash!

Good for the Knicks... I doubt the 29th gets you a franchise player, but...

Holy crap

Did you notice the Timberwolves had 4 picks in the top 28?

Talk about rebuilding...

(Excuse me if this is common knowledge... as I dont follow the NBA)

aside from the fact that one doesn't have to do with the other, this move isn't really "throwing away money."

it's really so that they can continue to trade away expiring contracts and still be able to field an affordable team (so that they can sign lebron and co.) i hope i explained it well enough, it's kind of weird.

they even say it in the article:
Quote:
"Certain teams, they may want to preserve cap space for the next year or two and they may need to add players," Kupchak said. "A good way to add talent at a fixed price is to have a lot of draft choices and then you can still maintain cap space a year from now."

From what I hear, this NBA draft is one of the worst years.

Its not the money as much as the face.....

bury Redden in Hartford and free agents will be very hesitant to sign here in the future. Especially after ONE mediocre season

Boy do I wish they could buy some teams pick though

I didn't say it was throwing money away.

I said throwing money around, as in, willingness to spend money which directly supports my point.

my mistake, but in this case they're still paying for someone who will most likely play for their team(an opportunity)--not their minor league affiliate. eh, i see your point though.. just don't think they'll do it.

I'd be surprised if they had to trade up for Curry. Curry has done everything but tell other teams not to draft him before the Knicks. It's not inconceivable, but I'd be surprised.
