Roster and Needs....

Breaking down the current roster and what we are lacking and what we need....

LW

Frolov
Ivanans

C
Kopitar
Stoll
Handzus
Boyle
Moller

RW
Williams
Brown
Purcell
Simmonds
Richardson
Zeiler

Potential AHL to make team:
Richard Clune - LW
Trevor Lewis - C
Kevin Westgarth - RW

Its obvious the hole is at LW. So any proposals trading Frolov really weakens us even more. We lost Calder, Michael Cammalleri, and O'Sullivan....all LW'ers...Who fits the bill? Heatley, Clowe, Gaborik, Tanguay?

Defense
Doughty
Johnson
O'Donnell
Greene
Quincey

#6
Drewiske?
re-sign Gauthier
Another UFA
Harrold?

Potential AHL/juniors to make team:
Hickey
Voinov

It's obvious we are lacking another top 4 D-man...it would be tough inserting Drewiske into a top 4 spot....Same with Harrold....Who fits the bill?

Ohlund, Beauchemin?

I don't see Boyle being brought back. I think DL cuts the ties.

Another issue is that outside of Doughty and Greene they, most of the Kings D is left shot. Voinov and Harrold are right shots, but you're obviously not thinking Voinov's ready and Harrold played more forward than defense last season

The two UFA's mentioned are also left shots and in the case of Ohlund, I'm sure he's looking for his last contract (long-term) so I'm not sure he's a fit.

Yeah also Harold is some sorta right wing thing too not really any good at defense. But mainly your leaving off Simmonds on your list of Right Wings mate! So we are deep at RW and hope some of these guys learn to love it on the Left side. Like Purcell and Richarson should both be practicing to play there. It would really help our depth and team alot if they did! I think Lewis also played some wing when he was up can't remember if he was on the right or left side just now...

I think while there isn't a hole at center per se, we could stand to upgrade there.
Option A: trade for established top-line center (Lecavalier, Spezza). Has been discussed ad nauseum.
Option B: trade for young up and coming top-line center (Bergeron)

At LW, while my impatient side would LIKE to see a Gaborik or Hossa sign here, I am guessing that Lombardi will go the safe route and get a guy like Sturm.
Option A: sign top line UFA (Gaborik/Hossa/Havlat)
Option B: trade for a top-line LW (Gagne)
Option C: trade for Sturm, sign Tanguay
Option D: trade for Ponikarovsky, sign Antropov

As for defense, I dragged this over from LGK:

If we pick up another defenseman, it's gotta be a more offensive minded one to mentor the kids. O'Donnell is great but none of the kids are going to learn how to run a power play or control the tempo of the game from watching him.

Of the UFAs, Beauchemin is an obvious pick. He's in the right age range to stay with the team, but I'm not sure he's got the offensive acumen to teach our kids a whole lot.

Some other guys that would fit the mentor role:

Zubov - Would be perfect for the young defensemen. Cup winner. Quite expensive and doesn't have a long history of mentoring young defensemen, but did do a fairly good job with Niskanen before he got hurt.

Schneider - Great fit given history, won multiple Cups, got great reviews from the Thrashers for helping mentor Hainsey, Enstrom, and Bogosian. Might be a bit heavy on the cap though.

Spacek - Another guy that Hainsey attributes to his development. Would be more reasonable cap-wise but doesn't have the Cup experience.

Sydor - Over the hill but does have some mentoring experience from playing in Pittsburgh and Columbus. Not sure if that was positive though (he's been fairly useless ever since he left Dallas the first time).

It should be made official and added to HFBoards html. Such would be the effect:

Start with an idea:

I believe the team will be satisfactory without major changes and that drafting a player such as MSP is the best course of action. He has great potential. Adding an expensive forward is not a good idea in my opinion.

Add tags [Kurrillino] [/Kurrillino]

And voila:

Put down that crack pipe.........
keep that overpaid guyyy .... ....
we don't need him we'll be okay no need to trade maybe get guy like Gaborik if he signs for cheap if not byebye.......

Frolov - Kopitar - Brown
MSP - Moller - Williams

I hope all of this ribbing on Kurri is coming from a place of love. His overzealous posts rampant with Kings love and unceasing optimism brighten my day quite often... the same can't be said of Ron's "Every team in the west will improve more than the Kings from here until eternity thus it is impossible for the Kings to ever make the playoffs but even if they sign a big name guy they won't be able to afford anyone else and Kopitar will never be worth his deal so Cammy should still be here what the hell am I doing in Raleigh" posts.

BTW - That came from a place of love

It's nestled safely somewhere between Robin William's factory from Toys and the Sarlacc pit.
