i understand keeping them all and buildig from within, a big fan of that.
But also, at some point, its time to look at the assets you have and the return you can get (with some of them) and seriously look at a move or two.
it might not put you into the scf, but winning and playoff hockey can really do alot for the young guys going forward, and one or two shrewd moves can go along way towards that.

I agree, but I don't think this is the draft to move the #1 pick. This is the 3rd year in a row that the Kings will pick in the top 5. How many times does a franchise get to do this?
Hanging onto these picks is a necessary "evil" in my opinion. If the Kings take Schenn, they will have added at no cost (other than crappy seasons) a #1 defensman in Doughty, a top 4 defenseman in Hickey, and a #1/#2 center in Schenn. Not too shabby.
The time to deal a 1st round pick could come at the deadline this coming season if they are in the playoff race. I think with a couple of shrewd moves that Lombardi can keep the Kings in the race right up until the end this coming season. If he adds an experienced top 4 defenseman (love OD, but he can't log the minutes he did last season) and a solid LW, I think we'll be in the thick of things.
Savard is a good player, but I wouldn't deal our #5 pick for him.
