Hawks are rumored to want to move up(Eklund, I Know its Ek but still), and we want a D or C. The Hawks are deep at wings, which allows them to make this trade to move up to get a defenceman(John Moore, Illinois Boy). So:

Flordia:14th OV

Chi: Versteeg

if Shroeder is available at 14... no deal. But if he's not, I'll pick up Versteeg my self (a florida fan living in chicago) and drive him all the way down to Sunrise!

This is assuming Moore or Kullikov is available, most likely Moore

No thanks. I'd rather keep the pick.

This would make no sense

Why would Hawks give up a 2 way young Calder finalist for an unproven prospect.

The rebuild is over! We are a contender now

Well, the problem is we can't afford to re-sign everyone from last year because a lot of guys are due raises. We have too many potential top 6 forwards. In the salary cap era, you can't afford to pay 9 guys top 6 money. Versteeg is one of the guys that will potentially go if we re-sign Havlat. Since we probably have to trade him, what should we trade him for? Restocking the pipeline with a quality prospect that will be ready in a few years is a good idea. We are a bit thin in prospects these days.

The Panthers should just take Moore or Ellis with that pick.

Not a chance in Hell that Schroeder lasts to 14.

At least I hope there isn't. There shouldn't be.

Yeah, I think we take Moore if he's still there. I agree that Schroeder won't be there.

I'm fine with dealing Versteeg to move up as long as one of Moore, Schroeder or Kulikov is still on the board. Kreider too, maybe.

I agree this is likely the reasoning but we better have Havlat signed before we go thru with a trade for Versteeg. Because if we cant get Havlat signed before July 1st then he would be gone also.

And if we lose Versteeg we lose not only a good young scorer but a pretty good defensive player. Aliu, Beach, Skille and Makarov the most likely guys to take a roster spot left vacant by Versteeg are not known for there defense.
