More like this:

Glen Sather is still our GM. We have no bright future.

Sather is the dark cloud that follows us wherever we go.

Im not sure that Staal will ever have the offensive numbers to compete for the Norris Trophy, at least perenially.

The Grachev stuff is getting out of control fast.

I'd settle for a team that starts building from within rather than blowing cash on UFAs that don't meet lofty expectations and are loathed for ridiculous contracts. That's a future worth being excited about.

Whether people like to admit it or not, this team has been building from within for quite some time now.

Teams that dont tank (and in the Rangers case, they never will), need to build a core of support players from within and supply the superstats through free agency in most cases. I think we've done a pretty nice job of continously implementing youth into the lineup with Staal, Dubinsky, and Callahan at the head of that class. The Rangers disaster is our free agents signings have not been the superstars we need...not even close in fact.

But again, this hasn't had a major effect on the building from within mindset. We haven't sacrificed a notable young player in quite a number of years.

To be honest, the bag of pucks is probably overpayment.

Agreed. The expectations are getting ridiculous. He hasn't even stepped foot on the Ice yet, and people are thinking he's gonna fill the large hole left by Jagr.

yes it is. I'd love to see how many people have actually seen him play outside of youtube clips.

I haven't, therefore I hope he turns out great, but i cant have crazy expectations yet.

Same thing with Anisimov. He put up a PPG in the AHL and a lot of people dont realize that often translates to 35-40 pts in an NHL rookie season. Can he breakout and do better? sure. But i think i a lot of people will be disappointed b/c they expect it as a sure thing.

I'll agree with Voros and Lundqvist statements. The other 2 are probably a pipe dream (hope I'm wrong though). I'll echo what Bleed Ranger Blue said. Staal wont have the offensive numbers worth of a Norris. And Grachev ... well he still hasn't stepped on ice. I'm hoping he turns into consistent 70-80 points guy (say 35 goals a year).

Unlikely unless he steps up his offensive game quite significantly. There are just too many good young defensemen for a primarily defensive defensemen to be in the running every year.

PRobably not. He'll be quite good, but not elite, in my opinion.

50/50. He's worth a bag of pucks, more or less. Just depends on whether Sather sees it.

Most likely of the four. He's definitely going to get at least one at some point, no reason it can't be next year.

40 points from Anisimov next season? I'll take it.

I'll also take 40 from Grachev.

as would I. Especially Grachev considering his inexperience in North America, and coming straight from Juniors.

I was commenting more on posts I've seen seeing they're gonna develop into 1st liners and big point scorers this year.

Love the NHL 94 avatar btw.

This.

One wonders if Cherepanov's death hasn't produced a kind of desperation regarding the hopes surrounding Grachev.
