Ovechkin.
then are you gonna compare Lemieux, Gretzky, Jagr against Datsyuk, Crosby and Malkin

you cant look at the awards that an individual has in these era comparisons. theres too many variables, to just look at award acheivements

This poll was from before the season and if the answer then was "Ovechkin by miles," it is now "Ovechkin by 100s of miles."

Aside from Peter Forsberg and Eric Lindros I don't think a forward has ever been able to dominate a game in so many ways. Ovechkin.

I hate the phrase "a country mile", but it suits this poll since Ovy is miles and miles better today than Selanne ever was.

Would it be ovechkin by miles if he was playing during jagr's entire prime, i don't think so. In 2007 an aging selanne outpointed your god ovechkin.

That's pretty bold, since adjusted for era Ovy has only surpassed Selanne's top 2 goal scoring seasons once.

Not to mention that Selanne put up 107 points in 75 games during the 1998-99 season, when goals per game was only 5.49, which is pretty darn low.

Selanne has zero Harts, 2 First Team RWs, and 2 Second Teams. Pretend that Jagr didn't exist and Selanne gets 4 First Team RWs and 1 Second Team RW.

Selanne's only high Hart finishes were 6th in 1993 (zero first or 2nd place votes), 5th in 1997, 3rd in 1998, and 5th in 1999. Pretend Jagr didn't exist and 1998 because 2nd and 1999 because 4th. Pretend Mario Lemieux didn't exist and 1993 becomes 5th, and 1997 because 4th.

Ovechkin has 4 First Team All Star LWs in 4 years. His Hart record - 6th in 2006, 1st in 2008, 1st in 2009. Pretend Jagr didn't exist (to be fair) and his 6th in 2006 becomes a 5th.

Yeah if they didn't exisst, selanne has 2 art ross trophies. Ovechkin may have 4 first all star team selections, but where did he finish in the scoring race during 2007, 13th?

I'm sorry I dont allow silly trophies to decide the value of a player. If ovechkin only outpoints guys like Iginla and Kovalchuk by 12-15 points, he's hardly a country mile above a prime selanne, who had far better competition.

Why do you keep harping on Ovechkin's worst season? 13th in scoring during his worst year, oh that's awful.

And sure if we magically forgot about 2 players, Selanne has 2 Art Rosses (playing on the same line as Kariya, who had almost as many points - let's not forget about players who actually helped Selanne's stats).

And I thought we were removing Jagr and Lemieux? You can't arbitrarily eliminate the only "better competition" Selanne had, then use Selanne's "better competition" as a plus.

Here's another way Ovechkin blows Selanne away that I forgot to mention before:

Playoffs
Ovechkin: 15 goals, 15 assists in 21 games. Best year: 11 goals, 10 assists in 14 games (2009).

Selanne: 35 goals, 37 assists in 105 games. Best years: 7 goals, 3 assists in 11 games (1997), 6 goals, 8 assists in 16 games (2006), 5 goals, 10 assists in 21 games (2007).

Selanne was a notorious playoff choker in his prime. Ovechkin's 2009 playoffs were better than any run Selanne ever had.

Selanne was the stereotypical "rack up lots of points getting tons of ice time on an awful time without having to worry about defense" type player during his prime. He was also quite soft, something you'll never hear Ovechkin being accused of. There's a reason he got very little Hart (or Pearson) consideration, even when he finished high in the scoring race.

Selanne I believe tied Mogilny for goals when he scored 76.

So he was never as dominant as Ovechkin.

Ovy easily.

Selanne has never been as good as Ovy now, not even close.

As a former die-hard Jets fan and a current die-hard Pens fan...

...Ovechkin, and it's not even close.
