As a Rangers fan--and one who doesn't like the Sabres much I still have to say that is a nice pick. I like ours as well but Kassian to me is unique and I'm a bit jealous.
"You want to talk nasty? You want to talk Milan Lucic? That's Zach Kassian. He's been drafted by a team with lots of undersized players. He was an organizational need for the Sabres." - Pierre McGuire
It will be interesting if he pans out how many times the 2 will fight over the years being in the same division and all.
The guys doing the NHL draft are just as bad if not worse than ESPN. they make it sound like every player will be an NHL all star when about half the kids selected today won't even last 1 year in the NHL even if they get that far.

Half of the first rounders won't last a year in the NHL?
Obviously there will be busts, but that's a bit of over-exaggeration, isn't it?

Sabres gain size with first round selection June 27, 2009

Portland, ME – The Buffalo Sabres made a big statement with their first round selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft being held in Montreal on Friday night.
The Sabres selected Zack Kassian with the 13th overall pick and by doing so have instantly upgraded their size at the forward position.
While I am disappointed that we didn't get Schroeder, I'm glad he went to a cool team like Vancouver. I just worry that Kassian's upside is limited but hopefully, he'll (Kassian)make the NHL and Moan type players are important these days....
Kaleta is faster than Vanek, so I don't see the point of translating speed to offensive game.
Kaleta had 28 pts in 67 games in his draft year and was 8th on the Pete's in scoring.
Kassian had 63 pts in 61 games this past season and was 2nd on the team in scoring.
Kassian's 24 goals this season matches Kaleta's career high in the OHL. And Kaleta's career high in points with the Pete's was 52.
Yeah, Kaleta is a great comparison to Kassian when it comes to offense.......
Well, stats doesn't tell the whole story, but you seem to see the thinks right!
I love the kassian pick, even if I think that he would have been available until the 17-20 pick.
I'm sure we could have taken a more talented Player, but what our organization need is a big Powerforward, who brings some phyiscaly play on the table and thats excatly Kassians play.
I see a very good chance for Kassian, making the the NHL roster next season, because we need size in our roster.
