Although you have a good point, too early to tell what the Molsons, as new owners, expect from Gainey (i.e. will they prefer a complete rebuilding job vs. yet another team "make-over" - an approach which has not been successful for the past 16 years)?

Although I have been openly critical of Gainey, I am delighted to see that Gainey - one way or the other - has apparently decided not to settle for the status quo. It at least looks like he will either go after better talent via trade or UFA signings or he will do a more thorough rebuilding job!

Well this is how I see it. New owners (btw is it 100% confirmed yet or not approved?), they want to come in as heroes, which is understandable. Gainey, although I am satisfied with what he has done in his 5 years here, has a LOT of pressure to pull off sometihng BIG. I agree with the previous post that if Plans a, B and C (whatever that may be) fail, he needs ot be looking for a job (I think ownership, again, will want to look good and will obey the media's pressure, unfortunately).

So, new owners + Bob failing at Hossa, Briere, Shanahan, etc (I know he didn't fail and it was mostly out of his control, I'm talking about the media's perception), I'm pretty certain tomorrow is going to be entertaining to say the least.

Vinny? Sedins? Gaborik? moving up at the draft?

PS I am drooling over the Sedins + Akost line...

The big move that would make a ton of sense to me is to move up to #3 and hopefully grab Duchene. He's everything we need. I could see Colorado moving the pick.

PLUS...His name would keep the ethnocentrists happy, cause they'll think they're getting a hometown boy.

Ive told players like Koivu and Kovalev that I will talk to them again on Monday, reiterated Gainey. Were waiting on that for a reason. Who knows, our roster might be much different by then.

Bob is really teasing fans now...what a intresting weekend ahead, i just cant wait

Halak and a third round pick won't give you the third overall pick, sorry.

I don't wanna get off topic here but.....

Build the team around Halak?

Price may not be playing like a FRANCHISE goalie right now but in his prime I believe he'll be more valuable then Duschene in his prime.

Ya ok.

Sedin's would be interesting as long as it is not for 12 years. Of course Vinny cannot be forgotten but again very long contract. Now these Redden rumors...so who knows.

We've got HiiiIIIighh hopes...we've got HiiiIiIIiIGHHH hopes....

Hopefully something goes down. Probably picking at 18, and announcing we've resigned one of Kovalev or Koivu on Monday.

Not that Gainey hasn't tried his hardest to do something big...but rarely does it happen.

Apparently it was too hard for you to read the whole thing... I clearly said, in no way do I think it's his fault, but the pressure is still there for him to do something big...

Sober thoughts

I know it's exciting and people are expecting a certain acquisition tonight, but most with connections say it ain't happening.

And that is a good thing/great thing for us. We will not loose our prospects and be sitting pretty with the fattest wallet around come July 1. Which is a better position for activity then today. The luxury of cap space will be best demonstrated when the music stops and UFA's are left without a chair.

There are some intriguing scenarios out there:
Scenario 1
Flyers are reported to be interested in J-Bo (it's already been reported they shopped Danny Briere). Who knows what they'd do to clear space and clearly we're in a good seat at the table in this scenario. Imagine we could acquire a Hartnell, Sbisa, JVR to help ease the presure on the Flyers.

Scenario 2
The Sedins hit July 1. There's been reports the Canucks are interested in J-Bo, Gaborik. That would mean the end of Van in the race for those twins. And again, D. Sedin is an impact player.

We are not the type of team that can compete on an even playing field. Every commentator in the NHL forces it down kids throats that MTL is not the best place to play. We need patience and we'll be in a great place come July 1 with the biggest stack.

Good thing, we got the most patient man in the business running the show.

trade with St. Louis Blues?

Don't know if this has been mentioned before but I was at the Draft and Bob Gainey essentially sat down next to the GM of St. Louis and spoke with for the last 30 minutes of the Draft.

Who could we be targeting?
