NHL Draft - Prospects Discuss hockey prospects from all over the world and the NHL Draft.

Jordan Schroeder's U-20 WJC "Disappering Act" is total nonsense.

The WCHA is very physical. In fact, I'm guessing most people would be very surprised at the lack of calls at the college games. The stickwork that goes on out there is ridiculous, think pre-lockout slashes and hooks, and it is a pretty tough environment as a whole when compared to other conferences. Also with the whole Kessel comparison, it isn't even close, Schroeder is about 5 times the player Kessel was in college. Kessel would just carry the puck from blue line to blue line, pull the same stupid move to the outside and then end up losing the puck the corner. Schroeder has a ton of effective moves and is one of the more creative players I have seen. His Defensive game is also leaps and bounds above most prospects that I have seen at his age. Of course Kessel translated his game better to the NHL so this may not be the fairest comparison, but at the same point in their development, Schroeder takes the cake easily in my opinion and I would love for him to fall to the Wild. So please, keep underrating him with the canadian bias, if he falls outside the top ten, it will be one of the biggest steals in the past 5 years IMO.

Statistically speaking, this is no more true of Schroeder than it is of his much, much more highley touted, and older linemates, Colin Wilson and James vanRiemsdyk.

"WEAK":

GER-JS(4)-CW(3)-JV(2)
KAZ-JS(2)-CW(2)-JV(3)

Total:JS-6, CW-5, JV-5
----------------------
"STRONG":

CAN-JS(1)-CW(0)-JV(0)
SVK-JS(1)-CW(2)-JV(2)
CZE-JS(3)-CW(1)-JV(3)--TWO GAME TOTAL

Total:JS-5 CW-3, JV-5

Team USA played six games, total. Now, some people may think that Slovakia would count as weaker competition. Well, they placed on spot ahead of the USA in the tournament, at fourth overall. The CZE REP, on the other hand DID place a spot below the USA, at sixth overall. Personally, I wouldn't consider them a "weak" team. If you do, that's fine. Here's how that would look...
First Colin Wilson and JVR have no part in the discussion because both have been drafted already. Do you think people would not be talking about how they fell apart vs the big teams? They would, but they are drafted. End of story regarding those 2.

Second since when was Czech a "strong" team? Canada beat them 8-1, Russia beat them 5-1, the USA beat them twice by a goal each time. Just because the USA team had to go to overtime with them in the quarters does not make them strong. The only wins that the "strong" Czech team had were over Kazakstan, and Germany. Fix the stats to show the Czech team as a weak team like they were and you will see exactly why there is talk about JS not doing much in the big games vs Canada and Slovakia.

9 points vs the weak teams and 2 vs the strong ones. That is if you include Slovakia as strong. The Slovaks did lose 8-1 and 5-2 to the Russians in 2 games.

I think Schroeder has the potential to be a good player, but you didn't prove much with your post.

Well.. He is a good player but there is a reason he has fallen and I think I trust the scouts on this one.

10-15 is where I think he will go.

Because Canuck fans come out and say he's the best player in the draft and puts Tavares to shame ?

Err, no Canucks fans are saying that... Most of us would have prefered Moore over him actually... But when someone like Schroeder falls, cant say i'm too upset.

Well, this is the only directly-related-to-Schroeder thread I could find and I didn't think it was worth it to make a new one, but I was wondering whether Schroeder compared favorably at all to someone like Paul Kariya stylistically? Both are/were undersized, fast, have/had the ability to playmake and snipe at a high level.

A month? , give it a day or two before they say we are "over hyping" him and everything.

a stretch to compare the two - take a look at there respective NCAA stats - Kariya tore up that league - 100 pts in 39 gms, as a freshman..JS, 45 pts in 35 gms as a FM...now the quality of play has increased substantially in the NCAA in the last 10-15yrs so the stats aren't apples/apples but, my point is that u can't compare them - Karyia was the best player in the NHL in the late 90's - JS will be a good NHL player but not in the class of PK
