Bouwmeester isn't a Flame yet. The Panthers only traded his negotiation rights. How the Flames fit Bouwmeester's new deal under the cap will take a lot of creativity by Sutter.

ya but they obviously "plan" on signing him if they traded for him which means they have some sort of plan

Maybe a trade is in the works to make room though. Phaneuf may be out.

Don't forget, Aucoin and Cammalleri and UFAs this summer. That alone is 7.5M in cap space. They DO have the room to pull it off.

If they sign NO ONE else, though.

I don't think Phaneuf will be dealt, especially since Brent Sutter is now the coach. Sutter was Phaneuf's junior coach in Red Deer.

Instead, I think Sutter would look to pare some other salaries first, namely Langkow ($4.5M), Sarich ($3.6M), Vandermeer ($2.3M), and Primeau ($1.3M). Jokinen could also be a possibility with his $5.25M cap hit.

The Flames have about $8M in cap space, but they also need to sign at least one if not two top-6 forwards with Cammalleri and Bertuzzi as UFAs.

That's completely true, except for the trade that you mentioned. That didn't happen at all.

Flames just traded Vandermeer for Brandon Prust. Cap space move it seems.

Last June, all that happened was that the Leafs let the Habs talk to Sundin. In the end, Sundin didn't make a decision by July 1st, so there was no trade.

Then, in early July, there was this trade:
To Toronto: Grabovski
To Montreal: 2nd round pick, Greg Pateryn (a prospect)

I am thrilled with this move. I'm really hoping everyone shuts the **** up and stops talking about Bouwmeester on the Sens blueline.
