Monster Danish defenseman Oliver Lauridsen at 6'6" 220. Same college as Nodl. Well he should be in the WJC.

He actually played in the WJC top divison 2 years ago.

I've been becoming a fan of Danish players recently, even though there's not many of them around.

I agree. I was hoping G or D over 6'3. This is exactly what I wanted. Solid pick.

I predict we see him in NHL for the Flyers in a few years.

That's a big dude. I was hoping for Collin Bowman but I'll take it. Doesn't look like anyone is going to take Bowman, and I have no idea why.

Actually, he's also already 20. There is no WJC for him. There may be Worlds and such though.

Yeah, except the Flyers didn't have to use a 10th overall pick to get him.

In the interview linked to earlier in this thread he says that he hopes to play at the IHWC next time, which i think would mean IHWC 09, where he didn't make it. However i think he has a fair chance next year.

Well he is already 20, so it has to be the senior team.

Even though he spells his last name with an "sen" at the end, I'm going to call this the "Son" draft, with Morrison, Bertilsson, and finally Lauridsen.

Hello Flyers fans.

I attend St. Cloud State and work on the radio side of our sports department specfically in men's hockey.

Lauridsen came to SCSU last year and is the tallest player in school history. He had to sit out several games at the start of this season because he had to wait to be cleared by the NCAA. Nice to see the Flyers take him and I know the Kings had scouted him at one time too this year.

I think taking Oliver this late in the draft is a good pick by Philly. Oliver is a bit of a project, but you cannot teach size and let me tell you, Oliver is HUGE! I am a short guy myself and would look like a kid standing next to him when I saw him on campus.

They call him The Great Dane here.

Take a look at an interview with Oliver in this video, about 3:40 in, and you can see how tall he is compared to the female reporter.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5MUEunmxcM

As for what I can tell you about Oliver he is very raw but does have a lot of potential. He has not yet grown into his body in my opinion as he does not use his size enough and often will fan on the puck as if he needs to bend down a little more to make a pass. He needs to add more of a mean streak into his game and help clear skaters out of the front of the net too. I think this will come in time and SCSU coach Bob Motzko likes what he sees for Lauridsen in the future.

As stated above his skating needs some work but let me tell you, when he throws a hit, it makes noise. He had a few ledgendary open ice hits this year. When he is physical he is a major force on the ice. He does have good hockey sense and will only get better as he adjusts to the North American game and matures. He only had one point last year and SCSU is hoping he can add a bit more offensivly next season.

I'll try to post every once in a while next year as to how he is playing as I will be press row all next year. Hope he pans out for you guys and from a Blues fan, congrats on landing Pronger!
