GM search down to 6 candidates

From Gorten's blog:

As I wrote in today's Jay Bouwmeester story from the draft in Montreal, Doug MacLean and Doug Risebrough have emerged on a short list of candidates to succeed Jacques Martin. Both told me they've interviewed with Panthers' alternate governor Bill Torrey.

An NHL source with knowledge of the situation told me Torrey is focused on six candidates, with Risebrough, MacLean, Neil Smith and Jay Feaster as the biggest names on that list. My question to you: If it comes down to that four as the final four, who would you rather have as the Panthers' next GM and why?

http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports...k-your-gm.html

My pick is anyone but MacLean after the job he did in Columbus.

GR says it may be Risebrough:

-- I have also heard that Doug Risebrough, the former GM in Minnesota, is the leader to become the new GM of the Panthers. He's already met with Bill Torrey twice, and those who know Doug say he thinks he's the frontrunner. He's apparently going to meet with Alan Cohen next week.

I'm happy with anyone else than Risebrough. Minnesota was horrible drafting under him and his trades were even worse

Sadly, that's probably true.

Smith is the best one on this list and that should really say just how bad this list is.

Bouw would go right into having a heart attack, there wouldn't be an inbetween.

Sign, just keep Sexton over anyone on that list.

Yeah, he'd be the cheapest option aswell, and would probably stay the course.

Sounds like the same rumor/story TSN had, so out of the guys TSN mentioned I'd probably want Pierre McGuire.

I think he is just strictly a dealer, it would explain why he still drives a truck.

I just don't want Feaster. He looks like a large pelican. But then, i don't want MaClean either.

Man this has all the signs of being a terrible summer. We lose two utterly uncharismatic chumps in Martin and Bouwmeester, and are likely to gain either another one or another mentally crazy GM again.

Seriously, this is just full of fail. Jay Feaster? Doug MacLean? What???????

Neil Smith by far. All the smoke points to Riseborough though.

The more I read it really looks like it will be Riseborough. If it happens to be MacLean or Feaster I will be extremely pissed.

Because it's sad that I think a guy who was managing an Ice Skating Rink a few years ago is now the best of the apparent contenders for the Panthers GM job.

It BETTER not be Feaster, MacLean or Neil Smith... makes me wanna throw up thinking any of those 3 coming here and wanted to put their footprints on our team and make changes... As much as I wouldn't mind Riseborough, I'd way rather just keep Sexton as GM then any of those guys

I hope people aren't down on Sexton.

He was GM of Ottawa in a time of no salary cap, no money from ownership that eventually went bankrupt and he did his best to hold that organization together. Time has given perspective to at least one sens fan, he was GM here under almost impossible circumstances.

I also met him when he was CEO of a tech firm in Ottawa, and was impressed by his broad knowledge of his own business and seeming resourcefulness. This was during the post 9/11 tech meltdown when a lot of small tech firms in Ottawa were fighting for their lives.

While I don't claim to follow events that closely in the cats organization, I'd sure advise at least considering him. He's had a lot of years to ruminate over his last stint as a GM, and I'd certainly be inclined to take him over one of the NHL's empty suit guys. Hell, most of them have never won a cup either.

Fair enough. He's managed our assets quite well...so far. If he can retain Skrastins and sign Leopold and Dvo at a good price he'll have acquitted himself while indicting me with the charge of premature evaluation.

edited to add Dvo

Hiring Feaster would make me sick to my stomach. This is the guy who made sure Tampa couldn't play us in preseason anymore (what a freaking baby, ever hear of rivalries?) and also prevented us from having any chance at bringing the AHL to/near the Orlando area, thanks a lot fat***! His GMing is very overrated also, overpaid his players which hurt the team and gave up draft picks (2nd rounders) like they were nothing.
