Yeah... and I'm high on both Ennis and Luke Adam as well. But I'd have liked more centers, specifically, in this draft.

I LOVE the size of this class, I really do. I'm happy overall

I am ecstatic with this draft. I really am. We got bigger, tougher, and meaner. My only knock is the lack of offensive talent, specifically at center, in the pipeline. I pray that Ennis and Adam can become top end offensive talent.

They must be convinced Byron will be a top 2 line NHL center.

And Ennis is looking like a top-6 forward as well.

I guess its all a matter of perspective.

After listening to Regier the last few days this is my summary of how he sees things

They have Connolly, Roy, Goose as their top 3 centers with other options like Hecht and Mair that can play center. Regier said he feels Kennedy is another option at center. They have Schutz who will get a decent amount of ice time next year with Zags gone and they signed college UFA Turnbull who played a few games at the end of the year for the Pirates.

Does Gogulla play center? He could be another option.

I wouldn't say that...you have Eidsness who as a freshman took over as the Fighting Sioux netminder and backstopped his team to a 2nd place finish in the NCAA. Eno rebounded nicely from his injury to put up decent numbers as a sophmore at Bowling Green. Having another netminder in college will give them 4 years to make a determination if he warrants a contract or if so, convince him to move earlier.

Byron played wing mostly last season. They didn't address center at all and it is a concern.

Devine is talking about Foligno playing center for them. So perhaps there was a pivot in there...

I agree that we do have some quality goaltenders in the system...but we've also only got 4 (Enroth, Eidsness, Eno, and Dennis). And you can never have too many goaltenders.

It wasn't a big enough need quality-wise to use a high pick, but taking one in the fifth round is perfect if only to provide some depth in the pipeline so we have enough goaltenders to stock Portland in a few years. Personally I'm of the opinion you should draft a goaltender every year just because they can be so hit-or-miss, although lately it seems Buffalo has done more hitting than missing.

This pretty much sums up my initial thoughts. Granted, I know next to nothing about the guys other than Kassian who they picked, but we need more pivots. And isn't there talk about Ennis/Adam playing wing? I remember hearing Adam played a ton at wing this season, and of course there's always the whole Ennis's size thing might make him better suited for the wing at the NHL level.

I think one thing is for sure--next year's first rounder should be used to get a center.

RE: Legault... Devine said something about him being an '89 and eligible for "the over-age"..... what? Any chance he's a Pirate?

That's what I'm hoping for. He's already 20 years old and has vast experience in The Q, so why not sign him and get him in Portland?

Yeah, they could sign him for Portland right away or let him go back to the Cats for an overage season. I'd expect the Prospect Camp to give them an indication of what they have and if they're going to offer him a deal immediately.

To have a demarcation from this thread to the actual draft -- and that we're at the 1000 post threshold -- we're closing this one up and using "The Sabres Draft Day" thread for overviews on how they did.

Good thread all
